Just fitted a gates racing timing belt. Supposed to be 3 times stronger than standard belt and cheaper. Why go for a genuine one?

Subaru might be more inclined to stand behind their product maybe? Especially if they do the fitting!

The reason i ask joe is i sell parts day in day out...And we sell hundreds upon hundreds of Gates/Dayco timing belts, i was wondering what his reasoning behind buying genuine is? Just curious

Dayco/Gates belts may be great belts but some people are not willing to risk $$$$ to run a slightly cheaper belt thats why they buy genuine parts.

If you want the best the STi ones are about $230+ frieght from japanparts (these are the same belt used on the WRC cars)
MMS normally have these but you will be paying a premium buying from anyone local.

Aftermarket parts are designed to work the same as the factory intended aswell. Subaru certainly dont manufacture every part on a subaru engine. Just because it doesnt have subaru stamped on it doesnt mean it is not as good quality. Not that i am doubting genuine parts, that is for sure. My 2c worth anyway.
