Default Bigger Turbo - legality and insurance

Still getting a few cut outs down the drags last night ( Both runs that looked like they were going to be really good ).

Going to get a delta dash log done on it Monday but lane is pretty adamant that it is a boost cut issue rather than any of the other suggestions I have had about it.

It is on the 3rd tune to try stop it. 1 from MMS and 2 from Lane. The two options that have been suggested are either porting the waste gate ( not lanes prefered option as no gain for the dollars spent ) or a new turbo with bigger waste gate and better suited to 3 in exhaust.

I figure insurance will go up ( I am with the RAC on a protected maximum no claim bonus ) but how stupidly.

Is it legal to fit a larger turbo or do I have to get all sorts of permits / trip to pits all the stuff I can't be bothered with.

If it is all to hard might just not bother with track days or drags for a while cos it just doesn't do it on the street.

to my knowledge upgrading a turbo doesnt require a permit - but i could be wrong.

1/4. Yes am getting a catch can fitted to pickup Monday but really don't think it is that in a straight line unless it is simply not getting enough fuel full stop.

My fastest run on a previous trip was almost with the fuel light on and was not an issue.

Did it surge shortly after launch or well down the strip?

hmmm, well the less amount of fuel you have in there the less fuel there will be at the front of the tank (assuming that is where the pump is), so it'll all go weeeeee.... at the back and pump will go 'no fuel *cough*'...

if your lateral acceleration has increased more, from mods or what not, then maybe the fuel is now getting away from the pump more as you are going moving forward (accelerating) faster? i dunno...

im no mechanic :P

did it do it on launching or further down the track?

I have a bigger turbo on my car and had my insurance with HBF, when I added the turbo to the list they told me they would not insure me unless I took the car over the pits and got permits (this was over christmas so I had 3 days to get it over the pits and I was away for all of them, I asked for extra time and they said no - so they can get fukd as far as I am concerned), changed to RAC with no issues and the premium was cheaper, so it is Legal.

Have you fitted a boost control solenoid mate?

Probably between 330 and 660 foot and again just on finish line both runs that it did it.

No No boost control solenoid.

Just spoke to RAC. Bit hard to say what you would have after you have done it before you do it. Think my 180 at the wheels at the moment works out to about 220 - 230 at the fly so reckon it would end up about 250 at the fly ( I'm being conservative ) . That would be no premium increase.Happy with that.

Can you get map switching with an ECUTEK??? might have to get a keep the RAC happy map and a I'm going to play where it is legal to have fun map!!!!
