Exclamation Subaru Standard BOV's

hey guys,

just looking for the thread on standard BOV's on the WRX's and STI's. Cant seem to find it.

i am wanting to know which is the best blowoff valve for holding booost and i am sure i have read somewhere that there is somethin you can do to some of the blow off valves for them to hold more booost eg. grub scew (remember doing this to my bov but unsure)

from memory the stock BOV on sti will hold up to 20 psi. I recall this thread being discussed in detail on iwsti.com and will have a look again when I have time.

wind a grub screw into the small hole in the stock bov, it will then hold over 2 bar.

HKS SSQ bov - I'm pretty sure it operates in reverse so when on full throttle/boost, the design of the valve holds the actuator shut tighter the higher the boost pressure. The new type also has no adjustment spring/screw to eliminate any further leaks. I'm running 21psi and on boost it holds fine. But yeah, the stock bov is fine unless you're planning to run massive boost and/or want the noise.

thats how the stock bov operates, the pressure from the vacuum line on the diaphram will push it shut. the stock bov when modified will work with 'massive' boost. although 90% of aftermarket bovs still utilise a spring/piston design, these will leak.

I think it was 17 or 18 PSI before people were reporting them cracking. How true this is, I don't know.

I run a GFB Stealth FX...excellent BOV, fully adjustable from Plumb Back to fully venting or somewhere in between. Adjustable spring tension by simple twist top. Very well made and machined.

No take the bov off and under the plate where it connects onto the tmic there is a little hole put a screw in it to block it up!
