Default EVO IX vs 07 STi

I'm thinking of selling my 350Z and getting either an EVO IX or an STI. I haven't driven either. Has anyone experience of driving both & if so able to point out pros and cons of both models?

Evo is much easier to get high hp from as the inline 4 layout is much cheaper to mod. Whack on a 3037 hks kit and some cams, zaust and your away!

Plus the evo IX has an iron block which means that if you ever fitted rods and forgies it would be super strong.

If you dont intend modding and just want stockish power, then the subaru does have the advantage of DCCD and a 6 speed which will never break (unlike the 9 which does break transfer cases). It also has extra capacity being 2.5 vs 2L

I would go the 9 myself any day of the week. So much easier to get good power because you have no large turbo and exhaust fittment issues. Twin scroll, it is already. Short intercooler pipework with a front mount, yep got that already. Camshafts for half the cost of doing it to a wrx, tick! High performance manifolds easily available tick! To get a rex to a similar tune you need to spend heaps on a custom front mount setup and probably reverse the manifold and then you need a twin scroll exhaust/sump/turbo setup to get the similar spool.

Why play catch up when u can just buy the 9

And this is from someone who has a subaru lol. I just wish the 9 had been out when I bought my car.

I'd wait and possibily check out the official specs of the EVO X and 08 STI then make a choice then. If you cant wait that long then I'd go with the STI only because I have one and I test drove the IX and didnt like the overall feel of the car.

if you want trackdays, performance etc etc sway to the Evo.

You want a bit of performance with better asthetics go the STi.

Evo feels lighter, steering felt quicker and more direct, better still goto Osbourne Park and drive them back to back, subaru and mistubishi are about 2 mins drive of each other.

We can tell you all the pros and cons you want, but at the end of the day your gut feeling will help you decide which one

Cool thanks guys. Tempting to wait for the X, but 2008 is a long way off! Anyone know the approximate price of the X, I heard it was 70 - 80K. Is that right!?

wiat for the 08 sti, buy a hot hatch . Like said, drive both see which one you like. 9 is fantastic track car with all the handling computers, sti is an enjoyable car to drive. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages.
