Advantage/Disadvantage 2.0, 2.2, 2.5L?
Im currently building a motor at the moment, car in the workshop all stripped apart. I built a Ej257 with forged pistons an rods but a rod bolt snapped and it all turned to shit.
So im either going to build a 2.2L or a 2.5L motor. 2.2 will prob be a stroked ej20 What are the advantages and disadvantages of each??? What would you do? Thanks in advance |
Why did the rod bolt snap ?
|
2.0 Higher revving, less lowdown power.
2.5 lower revving, bigger displacement allows for more exhaust so bigger turbo possibilities.(flame suit on) weaker construction. 2.2 Costly. need to buy a kit for 2.0 |
Not a huge deal of built 2.5's around atm is there?
|

EJ207 can take more boost than you can throw at it.
Why not a 2.7L ? |
if you can find one.
|
your not mistakenly thinking an ej207 is 2.7L are you kato?
I don't think you can get any further out of that size block than 2.5L. you would make the block way too weak. Why not go ez30? |
There is a few around. Mine WAS one.
So a 2.2L should be a good balance between high reving an low down torque? I want something that revs high but also has good low down street driving power What roughly do you think the cost difference would be form a 2.2 to a 2.5? about 3grand? |
I reckon about $2934.63
|

haha how long is a bit of string? Dude you need to talk to your workshop, its so hard to estimate unless you know exactly what you want. Everybody wants something different from their car. |

If ur going to build the 2.5.. U NEED SLEEVES as a minimun... |

EJ205 is also. EJ255/257's are 2.5L. Have I passed the exam now? :D Do some research. There are a few strokers for the 2.5L. i.e. the Axis 2.65L, Crawford 2.65L, Brian Crower 2.71L, etc etc etc. |
No, you're stoopid.
|
Shoosh you :D

THe new tribeca comes with a 3.8L flat 6, bore that out
|
2j!!
|
Why not do the 2.3...high revvvvving and nice torque...with a matched set of cams and a decent size turbo...fcuk yeah!!!
:) |
2.36lt with worked Cosworth heads.... is my vote....
|
Go the 2.2 on the 207 thats all .....
Or the 2.5 errr with some sort of kit would be good. |

Yeah I wasn't aware of anything more than 2.65, thats what I mean tho you don't leave much room if you go 2.7. Each to their own though. I would go ej207 or ez30, well that's what I'm doing anyway |
AFAIK someone in England does a 2.8l if im not mistaken, apparently not that good though as the bores are getting pretty thin by that stage and they dont rev too well.

nice. how strong is the driveline in the tribeca? Can we twin turbo it? |
If you have enough money pete, you can turn anything into a twin turbo :D
|

You just need to get the block closed decked and plate deck honed and then it won't ever blow up. I run just under 22psi and 300kw atw. No worries. Sleeving is only if you are going to run more than 25psi boost on a 2.5 according to perfourmance (who built my short motor and supply the parts for most 2.2L's runnign around including WRX STI's). I voted for a 2.2L. Fully closed decked very strong but with a few extra CC's to drive a big turbo. Perfect balance between Rev's and ability to run higher boost. |
I think im gona go a 2.2 I want something that revs but still has abit of torque and that can support a large turbo, But i already got ej25 number plates from the last motor so that could be a serious mechanical issue (ie removing them :D )
But 2.5 was a very enjoyable engine to drive on the street. Im so confused right now??? |
If you have enough money pete, you can turn anything into a twin turbo :D
on a little ej you will struggle to run a deuce turbo setup that would produce serious numbers. money is not the limiting factor, however, the small capacity of the engine is. imagine trying to spool up a gt35 on just 1.25lts! |
with a 2.2L could i use my 2.5L heads? Or would i have to use some 2.0L heads???
|
you can use your 2.5 heads no problems.

HEHE I think my block will explode when your 2.5 is finally together perfectly hehee eg ... never hehehah

hahah that may closer than u think simon, in the next few months hahahah |
I will know when your car is fixed because i wont hear this "daka daka daka" coming from Dianellaberg each morning. "Is that an old volkswagen?" "No thats tino's clearances"
|
i heard spikeys just put in a built 2.5. give him a holla.
you want torque |
he already had a 2.5. But hes putting in a new one. built stronger
