Default Thoughts on mod setup

Been doing some thinking, and reading, heres what Ive come up with for my next thing to do to my car.
Currently, its:
MY02 WRX
Stock Everything, except, 3" TBE, 500hp walbro fuel pump and Verso tune.

Heres what I was thinking
VF34 turbo
STi Top mount or upgraded top mount intercooler
retune

Any thoughts? 2 things I am wondering
1 - If the turbo is worth it, as in, is it much more of an imprvement over my current turbo, so is it worth getting or should I set my goal higher?
2 - Will a top mount intercooler be sufficient?

Basically, the car is my everyday car, so I dont want to loose too much drivability, but want to give it some more er.... go

1. Yes, huge improvement over the TD04. VF43 / VF34 are very similar in size.

2. TMIC will be more than plenty - Maybe an STi one could be worth the money if you can find one for around $400.

I suppose, my next questions to that would be, to fit a vf34 or vf43, is close enough to straight swap over, im refering to the mechanic aspect of it, not tuning.
Other thing being, a ball park figure, what sort of power would i be looking at?

How long is a piece of string?

How much boost do you want to run, how hard do you want to tune it, what upgrades to the fuel system will you undertake?

Anything from the same power your making now to 300 @ the wheels?

Thats a big baseline to play

VF34 is fine, big improvement over the td04, your not really going for massive power are you? youll be happy with a 34. and again coz ur not going for huge power, just an improvement, an upgraded top mount will be fine, youve already got the pump, and pretty sure my02 has the 440cc injectors? or do they go to the 550 like the sti? either way the 440 can be sufficient for a mild increase in power over stock, vf34 is good for over 200kw atw, so plenty of fun to be had with that. straigh swap for the 34 also.

being your everyday car and wanting to keep it very streetable i think a vf34 is perfect for ya, can run mid low 12s with the right combination of mods and still have it a very nice daily

oh and yes dont forget to keep ur handling and braking mods on par with the mods!

Remember your application! I gather your looking for more of a point and shoot type vehicle? I would hesitantly say that you heading in the right direction. VF34/35 ant big turbo IMO and can produce exceptionable and reliable results. Your set up will be similar in many ways to mine (currently), you'll have good usable power and will be more enjoyable to drive.

VF34 + Bigger TMIC would be ideal. STi TMIC is good, also see if you can pick up a 2nd hand AVO or Hyperflow for a good price.

You'll be super happy with that, it'll make 280-300 depending on supporting mods, and will be reliable.

I'd also look at a set of equal length headers and a silicone intake pipe. The more you maximise flow in and out of the motor, the more chance you have of making 300 at the hubs.

Todd's STi injectors that are for sale are good value for money too, and will be necessary if you're running a VF34 and want to make some fairly decent power.

Stock 99 440cc injectors + walbro pump flowed enough for 290hp at the hubs with some headroom on my old car with VF34...
