haha bloody britts and their pubs.
i'm half english. for the record.
you may file it under "useless information".

while advice from fellow Perthites it all good, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars is a BIG deal. if i were going to move anywhere, i'd get teh goss from ppl, research some places and then TALK TO A PRO!
sure, real estate agents may be after - at the ond of the day - getting your money for a house, but you aren't obliged to buy a house if you ask for tours, advice etc.
I'd rent a respectable place and look around for a place to buy.
that's my opinion mate. hope it helps,
ALEX

One of the guys I work with came out from UK ealier in the year. He said he
cannot believe how high the cost of living is here. I think he does like the
fact that he now has a huge property near the hills with horses and plenty
of space. Big difference to a small place in London.

And another thing... Do your research on EVERYTHING. Jacques has said that
some things here a really SH!T in comparison to UK. eg, telstra. Total poo.

I am making the move to UK for 2 years in a few months, so that should be
a interesting experience. When are you coming ? Looking to buy a WRX ?
or how about rent a place in Maylands (10 mins from city) ?

Interesting things to note about OZ
* Perth is the most expensive city in OZ for property and cost of living
* There is no such thing as a TV license.
* Telstra (the main telco) is shit for broadband.
* Koala's don't drop from trees and kill you (unless you have a vegemite sanga)
* Voting is compulsory for citizens but there is rarely anyone worth voting for !
* Perth now has an underground (about 600m of it)
* Perth has a reputation in some circles as having some of the best looking chicks.
* XXX porn can only be mail ordered from ACT (capital territory on east coast)
* Radar detectors a legal
* There are no 1c and 2c pieces. Everything is rounded to nearest 5c at register.
* The shops are not 24hrs so some evenings can be quite boring.
* Most pubs will not serve alcohol before 10am (I have tested this several times)
* We love credit. Get a VISA and add to the national debt.
* If you don't like vegemite then GO HOME.
* We call skimpy panties 'G-Strings'. Thongs go on your feet (flip-flops to imports)
* You can drive to 2 days in the country and not see any other living thing.
* You cannot visit Sydney on a day-trip.
* The UK will fit inside Western Australia 3 times. So OZ is F*CKEN BIG.

Ello mate.

Fellow brit here ... moved here 6 years ago and wouldn't go back if you paid me but don't think that you won't get homesick cos you will ... and it'll be over the stupidest things,i.e chocolate doesn't taste the same and you can't buy monster munch crisps etc, etc(and they don't call crisps crisps they call 'em chips).

There will be many words that you'll say different to the locals and you'll laugh for hours at 'em because of it !! You'll also get so annoyed when you here them say soccer (football) and yet call a game that you carry the ball in your hands FOOTball !!

The biggest downside is the large quantity of people that struggle to drive between the white lines on the road, struggle to use the little stick next to the steering wheel called an indicator and cannot grasp the idea of 2 lanes merging to 1 ... we have to stop for that here !!

But on the upside ... you get beautiful weather, the majority of people are friendly and happy, the beaches are mint and the beer is cold !!

If you need any help with anything give us a shout.

Good luck with it all ... you'll love it.

Stuart

That's why it's called Australian Rules Football, footy for short. Seeing as how we were colonised by criminals it only fits that you pick it up in your hands and run with it!
