LED spoiler repair
I've taken the spoiler off the thing and taken the LED out.
Now I'm having trouble finding anyone who will look at it. Can anyone recommend an electronics repairer who would do something like this?

Well I got power in the line going to the light but no LED's at all light up. So it sounds like a board or something (I have no idea really).
Subi only sell the whole spoiler at 1500 bucks, smash repairs don't come across the LED else I'd just do a straight swap. Anyone who knows how to solder should have an idea of what’s wrong with it.. thing is I an’t one of those people.

also, maybe try to get a multimeter across the LEDs. i dunno if you can access them seperatly. but just try to see if current passes through them. sounds like you have an open circuit

Yeah a multimeter will be very handy to test each LED if its possible.
If you can manually test each LED you may find the one that could be causing the open circuit. 5 volts or 2 x 1.5v is usually plenty to test each one if its possible. Not much can go wrong with LED's they usually last forever and if ones blows the rest usually will remain working still. I have seen plenty of LED spoilers with a few dud LED's and the rest working fine so one dead shouldnt cause the rest to not light up. |

replace the board with one of the jaycar nightrider chasing lights kits...

If you can post up a picture of the board that would really help..like Golding said LED's are polarised...if you can look at the LED's individually you can tell which side is positive. When looking at them from above you will notice that its not circular, one side will have a flat spot...this side is negative, you should be able to tell if they are in the right way then.
Here's a visual aid. http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/data/images/LED.gif **NOTE: Picture shows the large internal plate being negative, this is NOT always the case.** |

I got replacements LEDs from Jaycar also...Worked well but get the red ones not the white coz otherwise the brake lights turn out a bright neon PINK! Ugh
Couldnt cope with pulling it all to bits again so ill be living with it for a while! |
