Default any suggestions???

hey people. i need some expert advice :P ive got an automatic 1997 subaru impreza gx (front wheel drive :S) and ive already put a muffler, spoiler, mags and sound system in it and other than that everything is stock. i was just wondering if its worth doing up performance wise? i know the gx model has a different engine layout to the rx and wrx. Would that make it an expenisve pain in the ass to do up or what??? and if not, wat would suggest doing to it? for reasonable price and performance?? cheers scott

Performance = Sell and buy a WRX.

Absolutely jack all you can do to make any decent gains on a NA. If you want to go the full hog, you can convert your car to a WRX/STi, but unless you do the transplant yourself, it will be cheaper to purchase a WRX.

You can do the usual things like better air intakes full exhaust systems. Maybe some extractors or whatever. Nothing is really going to put you back in your seat in an N/A GX.

If you are looking for massive power, buy a R32 GTR :P

Hey mate. I've got a MY99 RX, and performance wise, I've got:

RDA slotted rotors with EBC Kevlar pads
K&N panel filter
custom 2.5” stainless steel CAI
custom 2.25” cat back exhaust with Lukey muffler
17” MY01 WRX rims with Goodyear Eagle F1’s
Lovells springs (30mm drop)
20mm adjustable Whiteline RSB

As mentioned, wouldn't bother chasing power at all. Rather, if you are so inclined, go for handling (but you're disadvantaged with your mentioned FWD). Hence my choice of light mods.
As they say, "Just buy a WRX" :P
Also, useful forum for NA Suby's:

Yeah, zero point in chasing power from the NA mate.

Whack a muffler on there and some Borla headers, get the sound right, then leave it at that. Nothing more you can do.

You could always buy my Nitrous Express NX system & give it a 30 hp ATW shot in the ass, bottle would last for ages & shouldn't hurt the motor provided it's done right.
