Exclamation Hard Choice

Ok, in 3 weeks im supposed to be picking up a MY05 Black WRX for 28K from a family friend (44k km), however the deal isnt final.

Ive thought about what id like to do with it

eg.

STI Wing
Exaust to bring out the tru wrx purr
bov
lowered suspension
Cold air intake

want to bring out the performance of the wrx but not spending too much, maybe an FMIC, would i need an upgraded turbo?

Also another question is would it be better to sped the extra 10-15K and get an STI?

or could i accomplish near performance of the sti and the wrx sound with less money than that

thanks

search and youd prolly find the answers, been covered.

no you dont have to upgrade to a fmic unless u just want bling, if your not changing turbo its not neccasary, if your going for a decent sized turbo then yes but with the td04 you only going to increase lag dramtically, go for a bigger tmic if anything. if you can afford to go the extra amount for the sti do it!! 6 speed, stronger motor, brembo brakes, its alot better package. You must be referring to my03-05 sti? coz for 28k-30k you could find a my02 sti.

Here's my POV. I bought a 03 WRX, purely as i hate the bug eyes and couldn't afford and 03 STI. I've found that been a general street car it's got a ton of power, looks the goods and sounds the goods. Don't get me wrong if someone offered me an STI i would take it, but the WRX is more than enough for me.

If you can stretch the budget to an STI then for sure go for it, otherwise stick with the wrx.

To get the rumble you can either pick up a Dylan spec exhaust for $600ish + max $200 for install. Or go to any of the workshops listed in the mechanical section, and your looking $1500-2000.

Lowered suspension - again depends what you want, anywhere from a set of springs 3-600 up to 2-3k for coilovers. You might also want to consider sway bars etc.

Blow off valve allow for 2-300 - ask one of the workshops to install it during a service and it should be reasonably cheap.

The wing - there's someone selling them atm (bankids) for $250, then your looking around $400ish for painting + install.

CAI - there's a couple of threads going atm about them in the mechanical section, so go have a read up on the info there.

At the end of the day, the price difference between the STI and the WRX spent on mods to a WRX would get you near STI if not better performance, however with the STI you have a better foundation to build on IE the 6 speed gearbox and brembo's.

If you want the Purr, don't get a Cannon and don't put equal length headers on ..
