A Question For The New Owners Of An 08sti

Just Wondering, As My 08sti Has Yet To Arrive, How The New Owners
Of The 08sti's Are Finding Their New Car. Is It More Than They Expected Or Less And What Is It Like To Drive?

WRP10 02-04-2008 01:12 PM

Capitals are for the starts of sentences and proper nouns

muggz 02-04-2008 01:14 PM

Lol.

RichX 02-04-2008 01:16 PM

08STi is pretty weak in a stock form is the general consensus.

Weak compared to what?

Faster than the previous model, more features, options, safety and comfort.
Weak compared to what?

Weak compared to the dudes with an STi already, who rock up at the dealership, about to go for a test drive, and the salesmen see they have a previous model .. and are like .. "Maybe you shouldn't drive it"

Yes, better comfort, safety etc which is what you would expect by default on a newer model, but i don't believe it's as quick, what's the 0-100 times between a 05STi and 08?

Just not a fan of it personally, but everyone said that about the bugeye, and they can still be made into something decent.

It just appears that everyone with an STi at the moment who has taken the 08 out has been disappointed.

BREW 02-04-2008 01:42 PM

Maybe it does not have a huge spoiler or a proper ass.

Kato 02-04-2008 01:52 PM

Interesting. Only complaints I have heard are that it is a hatch from people wanting a sedan.

I'm also curious over the performance stats since the new model is faster than the outgoing STi.

RUSSGT 02-04-2008 01:57 PM

Id love one! Faster, better DCCD- up to 80% rear i heard. Sweet lookin. I love it!

Trexx 02-04-2008 01:57 PM

supposedly 5.2 0 - 100

US figures are quoting better than that for 0-60mph but that's the AUS specs I've read in print here.

It is what it is - you buy it or you dont. We'll all be doing things in time that will make the out of the box spec pretty irrelevant anyway. I.e coilovers will fix suspension and engines wont stay as they are.

Hatch grows on you but yes - would have prefered a sedan.

stock STis or modded ones?

RichX 02-04-2008 02:08 PM
stock STis or modded ones?
Modded of course, never a good idea to rock up in your 200kw+ STi and then take the 08 out.

Not surprising it would feel like a pig, would feel like an RX in comparison as would any other.

I have heard other people in stock 05's sti's have been disappointed though. Anyone else here got a stock 03+ STi, and tried the 08STi?

What is different between a 02-05 sti in terms of 'grunt'? All 207, all VF35.

I would imagine the 05 STi owner would be disappointed that it isn't as "revvy" and that would be due to the boatorque cruiser motor in it.

Fucking LOL

So if I rock up to Alf Barbagello in my shitter $40k rex with a few mods, are the sales reps going to say 'Hold on son, these cars are slower than you modified car, don't think you'd be happy test driving them'.

Of course a modded car is faster than a stock car. And I'm sure a modded 08 STi will destroy the hell out of a stock one (and your car too).

Does the local 2.5L come with the 8k redline? Or were my pics wrong...

Elrico 02-04-2008 02:45 PM

Wrong

Rich I posted this in Dec 07 after my test drive of the MY08 STI R Spec :D

I liked the everything about it except the hatch.

lemon > 08 wrx/sti

207 de 02-04-2008 03:14 PM

I would take an 08 JDM sti over an 05 JDM sti any day.

The only thing I dont like about the 08 AUS Spec Sti is the 257. Everything else would be better. The hatch is a personal choice...

Whats the wheelbase diamensions on the 08 sti? What is its track? Wonder if it has any different suspension geometry and different cams, ECU upgrades etc etc..

Track is bigger, wheelbase is longer, different suspension. Engine wise not sure on the EJ257, EJ207 is a cracker.

Subaru Australia would make a killing of a limited run of S205 / Spec C's with jap spec EJ207's.

but they must be wrong.

Probably are:

I have read lots of reviews and for every negative one there is a positive one.

Petter Solburg had a lot to do with the cars development but what would he know.

Every car has good and bad points - it is always a compromise.

If this car doesn't suit your needs buy one that does (or mod the crap out of it).

For a car that you drive to work and home in, occasionally give it shit and occasionally track it'll meet my requirements for now.

just a suggestion but you might want to ask Dean and Bill before posting their thoughts on open forum Makavel ? ;)

the car is physically shorter but with as kato said longer wheel base and wider track

Adr3naL1N 02-04-2008 04:22 PM
Id love one! Faster, better DCCD- up to 80% rear i heard. rediculously butt ugly and id look like a poof driving one. I love it!
fixed!! :)

Luigi 02-04-2008 04:46 PM

I would upgrade my 07 STI to the 08 STI no worries.

But only as soon as VERSO is available for the 08.

Elrico 02-04-2008 05:11 PM

Just go pickup a ver 5 RA sti DCCD, correct me if im wrong but does it not have 100% rear capability? If you want a WRX for a burnout, you are driving the wrong car imo. Go get a nissan.

Mister Two 02-04-2008 05:27 PM

AFAIK...
DCCD up to 05 was 35F/65R max split
and then 06/07 is 41F/59R max split.

Im not sure what the 08 sti 6 speed DCCD is capable of.

nauli 02-04-2008 05:37 PM

Sar...have you got yours yet??

I drove an MY08 STI on the AHG track about 4 weeks ago and quite liked it (and that's after hopping out of a reasonably well sorted MY06 STI).
For an off-the-showroom-floor car it has good straight line power and handles pretty well (albeit with the DCCD rear biased to minimise understeer). It definitely has more body roll than previous models but that gives it good traction. With the much softer suspension it will be a much more pleasant daily driver (especially in the country) than previous models. I think it could be made into a pretty good handling track car with coilovers, bars, Whiteline black box etc, etc.
Power can be taken care of with an ECUTek tune....
Looks of it are personal taste... I actually don't mind it myself...

207 de 02-04-2008 06:59 PM
the car is physically shorter but with as kato said longer wheel base and wider track
So are you trying to say that there is more to the performance of a car round a track than its 0-100 time???!!!!and its power to weight???

RichX 02-04-2008 07:08 PM

Latest Wheels Mag Has My08 Sti @ 14.1 - 400m, as someone said, a decent tune should drop that a little.

thats while powered & controlled, they behave differnetly when left to their own devices

Elrico 02-04-2008 08:25 PM

I thought when left alone they would be a standard 50/50 ratio?

Just get a 95 rex, MBC and weld the front. Burn outs for all

jEstEr? 02-04-2008 08:31 PM

well as proved by certain forum members, when left un powered they throw the bias way to the rear, standstill burnouts anyone? then at the flick of a switch, 50:50 lock

Elrico 02-04-2008 08:36 PM

Any more info on that matt? Is it a computing error, or mechanical? Seems weird that its controlled to certain ratios but doesnt reset to 50:50 when turned off. Sounds very very intresting :P. SOrry to get really off topic but a 98 RA STi box are pertty strong, would dropping one in a gc8 be worth it? Or even bolt up?

On the 08 STi, after selling my car, id have the cash for one, but it hasnt wowed me yet :P. Gonna keep a look out and see what they do in 2010.
