3A Racing Pod Filter - Cheap and Nasty???
Hey guys this filter (3A Racing) was the outright winner of Auto Salon's pod filter shootout in issue 51.
It ranked 1st for Flow and 2nd for Filtration. Yet it's retail price is $29.95. My mate got me thinking about it $40 with an adapter is pretty damn cheap... What do you guys think? Has anyone been brave enough to try one out on a wrx??? I'm sceptical about their testing methods and not keen to risk my engine. For reference: K&N 3301: 4th for flow and 1st for filtration Apexi Power: 7th for flow and 6th for filtration HKS Direct: 6th for flow and 9th for filtration |

Ask your workshop that you trust what they think is best for your car.

there are other reviews on the internet that say the apexi is the best going around....
i would stick with a well know brand that has good research and development.... stay away from backyard jobies. |

^ between brands? The main issue is filtration - if it lets in particles that the stock filter wouldn't then there's a problem. From the Auto Salon test, for filtration it's better than all except the K&N (wouldn't use anyway because it's oiled)
In terms filter life and maintenance, who cares - for $30 it may as well be a disposable filter. As long as it lasts the service interval it's all good. But then again $30 repco/supercheap brand filter just doesn't sound right for a WRX does it... the guys on the skyline forum love em though haha |
