get an evo engine, stock, tune, tbe
= 250kw atw no problem :)

BXT 05-05-2008 09:02 PM
not sure about that. we need to remember that the 2.5 has paper thin bores, crappy pistons and all that jazz.
Yeah ....for a car seeing regular track time a proper built 2.5 then...what would it really take? Sleeved bores and proper forged pistons???

BALISTC 05-05-2008 09:04 PM
someone can correct me if im wrong, but
bottom end doesn't make power. it contributes to torque. but the thing that makes power is the heads (cams, flow work etc). you just need a bottom end that can handle the power, and if you dont want the turbo to be as laggy, then your going to have to increase displacement (2.2 or 2.5).
Correcto.

chee 05-05-2008 09:07 PM
All handling will be done on the car first. before the engine is up and running in the car. and hopefully will be set up and tested before the engine is finished .

So the 04 wrx engine isn't a easy engine to build for reaching a figure or round about figure im after. What's there main propblem .
open deck block, shit pistons, shit rods. joe balistic had/has a ej207 which is a semi closed block. you could refresh that with some bearings and what not and have a block that would rock out 300kw. just need to work some heads with cams, bit of porting etc.

for 300kw out of a 2.5 that would take a beating, id sleeve it, go with forged goodies inside. that would be a good reliable setup.

Too late on that Chee.

Pretty much you could stick with a 207 and run a fair bit of boost on a smaller turbo. Track cars are going to want decent on/off throttle response and the 2.2ltr will give it that with the proven forged bottom end. WRX motors are fine, just dont expect it to take the punishment required by a track car. Like chee said, they are open deck to start with, their internals are not forged and the heads dont flow as well as a set of v7 sti ones. Nor do they have as good cams etc.

By starting with a wrx engine, you are already a step behind and sevrel thousand dollars down. I would opt for the 2.2ltr for the 200cc more stroke to push that turbo spool a little quicker rather then the 2ltr and then throw a medium sized turbo on her. She'll be kickin tyres like no tomorrow.

In otherwords a 257 with sleeved bores? Also from what i have read because of the TGV deletes in the STi manifolds they actually flow better. This info has come from a few sources. Tumbler Generator Valve was aparently only made to United States specefications for emmissions on cold starts. Dont know if Aus deliv. ones got them. But thats another topic!

257 isn't forged standard.

Ohh well there you go, learn a new thing every day! Then i reckon a cheaper and more reliable option would be the 207 with a stroker kit.

2.2 In my humble opinion.

Speak to someone like Brad aka 11secwrx or Scotty from Tech9 for costs on the stuff over east, or one of the local shops.

Eliminates all the known issues with 2.5's. Still makes good power and torque and also makes the thing responsive, while still allowing it to rev.

go the whole way! no lag!
