Whilst we are all a bit biased towards Subaru, I do think given the comparison was Performance Car of the Year, not Bang for Buck or anything else, they thought the STi was 'forgettable' yet fast.

Surely the performance stats outweigh the fact the car does it effortlessly?

For those without Motor, results for this round were:

1. Porsche GT2 (Eligible for final) - Acceleration 1 - Track 1
2. Merc C63 AMG (Eligible for final) - Acceleration 4 - Track 4
3. XR6 Turbo (Eligible for final) - Acceleration 5 - Track 7
4. Lotus Elise SC (Eligible for final) - Acceleration 3 - Track 2
5. BMW 135i (Eligible for final) - Acceleration 5 - Track 6
6. STi Spec R - Acceleration 2 - Track 3
7. Morgan Aero 8 - Acceleration 6 - Track 7
8. FPV F6X - Acceleration 8 - Track 9
9. VW Toureg R50 - Acceleration 9 - Track 8

The order doesn't seem to represent 'Performance' now does it?

Something seems to be wrong there...

Yeah motor is a bit of a holden/ford mag nowadays.. My mates mate thought his super sick 6.0l ssv would pull a 13.3 or some crap as per written in motor. Till he went to the motorplex and pulled a 14.9 hahahah crap driver dont worry. But yeah after reading a wheels mag that aint so biast they only think the same car is capable of a high 13???? Go figure??

Unfortunatly we live in australia the home of the holden/ford so people always have a soft spot for them well some anyways.

Yeah, I was a bit miffed when i noticed both wheels and motor clain 14.1-14.2 quarter mile times for the 08 Sti....also they claim 5.1 seconds 0-100.

Until I saw a dozen or so slips from guys in the USA with the exact same spec car running 13.2-13.4 bone stock. Plenty of people proving 0-100 is more like 4.6 as well....

if its not a holden or a ford, they are gonna massage figures to make them seem less appealing. From what i see in the results above, it should be porsche-lotus-sti...the lotus and sti tied 2nd!

well,

STi Spec R - Acceleration 2 - Track 3

I think I bought the right car, I dont give a toss about where i put my golf clubs- much like all 911 and lotus owners.

"Performance" isn't JUST acceleration and track times. They reckon the car has no "soul" and isn't all that fun. Although how a Falcon can come 2nd is beyond me.

That's right. A performance car does need to have that 'feel', but a stocker xr6t still feels like a boat (times proving it).

How a lotus is deemed less of a performance car than a stock xr6t is beyond me.

Well I went and bought EVO Magazine today. Yes expensive at $11.50 but DAMN what a good Mag! I stopped buying Motor and Wheels years ago and even gave up on Hot 4's maybe a couple of years ago but I think EVO has re-ignited that Buying Car Magazines flame again.

The issue I got is May 08 as that seemed to be the only one in the news agency but it has some awesome articles in it, one of my favourites being on AMT, DCT and Auto Trannies, it is a brilliant read.

Thanks for letting us know about it Jan.

I highly recommend it!

I have to tread carefully here, but my best mate and the godfather of my children is the new editor of "MOTOR". He is a very respected scripe in the car game and their veiws are based on so many levels, not just which car is the fastest & handles the best.

That would be a hands down winners for the high $$$ euro rockets. I agree with the comments in this fourm and would rate the Sti in front of most of the other cars tested, but i have not read the test yet to see the comparisons.

I am looking forward to the finals of the BFYB tests in September....

Even Evo/Car did a comparison between the STi and Civic Typre R and said the STi lacks feel and character.
