Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

I have a track day coming up on Thursday and I've just uncovered my old 8mm tape video camera, and I was wondering if anyone here has had any success or has any clever ideas on how I can mount it in my car. I don't want to perform major surgery (hey, it's Sunday afternoon and I'm lazy) but I'm open to suggestions. I was trying to get something like 'looking between the front seats from the rear seat' kind of view.

I had previously made a bracket to mount my new, tiny hard disk drive video camera on the back window shelf using the baby seat bolt hole, but I soon discovered that hard disk drive cameras and driving hard doesn't work - there must be too much vibration and it just shuts down. I can't use the same method this time as the tape camera is significantly bigger and won't fit.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Try a Tripod on the passenger seat and strap it in? or at the back between the seats.

Velcro straps on under camera, and the other side of velcro strap on rear parcel shelf. It worked for me in my S13 the first time. Then had to duct tape it to my roll cage lol when I stripped it. But from the rear parcel shelf, you get a full view of track + you driving.

I think i saw it on rexnet, but a guy was selling a camera bracket shaped like: \_/ , that you bolted to the grab handle holes in the roof in the back.

looked pretty specy.

I've thought about making something along the lines of this.

Long strip of aluminium about 3" deep bent up at the ends with a bit of rubber glued in the bend to protect your rear windows & maybe a strip of pine or something screwed/glued underneath to strengthen it, then 2 or 3 different mount holes for the camera position...........you can move it back & forward till it's in the right position before clamping it in place in your back windows.
Crude but cheap & excuse the piss poor drawing effort but you should get the idea.

I had a camera mount that was made from galv square tubing, had holes drilled in it so the head rests slotted thru to hold the mount in place. Didnt have bucket seats in my car as it was an RX. Only catch was to keep the camera level, both seats had to be adjusted in the same position. Got the plans out of an early autosalon magazine.

Although I think by the time you sourced the parts and spent the time doing this it would be cheaper and easier to buy the Race Recall one.
