A Type R is essentialy a 2dr STi Type RA.
Basically it goes WRX -> STi -> WRX Type RA -> STi Type RA -> STi Type R

The jappy STi Type R/A is worlds away from the WRX and STi we recieved in aus, better heads, cams, turbos, drivetrain etc. A stock JDM RA would eat a well modifed Aus WRX. Essentially the Type RA 4 dr model is a "homologated" model for rallying/motorsports, with all the fruit on it, light weight panels, wind up windows, no aircond etc. there are special run V Limited models which also got the air cond and pwindows. Now with the Type R 2 dr model, they were a "customer order" car in which any part of the car could be selected from STi's parts catalogue. If you bought one sight unseen from Japan it could have 2 pot brakes, stock 5 speed and R160 rear diff or could be fully optioned R180, DCCD, 4 pot fronts etc. Ramons S201 is an example of a road regged Type RA (Albeit with a few extra options and that wild bodykit) and i know there are a few Type RA's sneaking around wether they are B reg or rebirthed.

that help?

Oh and they are awesome to drive stock, an animal. I've yet to drive a heavily modded genuine RA but have had the pleasure of driving a converted one and sat in the back of Clint/Blaise's old weapon. Hopefully my car will come close to the feel of a real one

I run a type r on the rd over here in the uk and can honestly say its the best impreza i have ever had. Lots more feel to it than a std wrx etc and takes a bit more involvement in the driving department. Mine is running front and rear lsd's and coupled to the dccd makes it much more tail happy in the right setting.
Great car for track days and general hooliganism.
As Jester says there are lots of different specs (i have even seen a 1.5 n/a) 2 door type r.

hiya doddsy!!

yeah type r sti is a beast lol i lost mine 3 times when i had it when back end decided to come to the front!!

luckily i caught it the gearing so close and tight they basically run cirlces around std sti's and blitz wrx for fun!!

but i hated the tail happy antics of mine and prefer the drive of the "normal" awd system but saying that i would have another!!!

ps thats my old one in avator simple mods ie full blitz nur spec r and open neck de cat downpipe all of which is a full true 3" system oh and a dump valve!!

Blaise's old GC8 RA now resides in Mandurah in the garage of an IWRXOC member. Have ridden in its passenger seat a few times around the AHG full track and it is an awesome weapon...

Where are you getting the cut from? What else are you getting with it? I assume you are getting the rear diff assembly, are you getting the fuel tank? You will need one if your car is FWD at present.
