just curious do all use go to subaru to have the serviced done to keep the warranty. I hope you know that you dont have to do that as long as you use genuine parts and a lienced mechanic does it for you the warranty still stands. with the plug thing just plug it bck in your self.

Have had no issues with Subaru Osborne Park, despite having warranty work done on highly modified wrx and the STi

the $90 was likely the time charged to diagnose the problem, not to plug it back in.

Jim Hall FTW for servicing

I've made warranty claim at City Subaru even though I never had my car serviced there and they did a great job and never questioned my mods.
Wasn't a cheap claim too, it was a new power steering pump and sunroof motor.

Goes to show it really depends who you get on the day

Speaking from a main dealer workshop point of view, when a diagnostic/mechanical or any other fault comes in under warranty, we do what needs to be done, and word the warranty claim accordingly. (ie...you've run over a low curb and damaged the sump pan - your own fault, but we'll word the claim in such a way as to NOT cause any cost or inconvienience to the customer - CUSTOMER SATISFACTION is the main agenda!)

In your case, we would most likely have worded along the lines of:

Vehicle engine management light on. Use diagnostic equipment. Found code #### - secondary air pump inoperative. Checked pump, found poor electrical connection - wiring under stress. Re-routed wiring harness. Cleared fault codes. Tested system - roadtest and report all OK.

For that, we could claim (potentially) up to 2 hrs work I guess - we get plenty of $$$ and the customer is happy!

So next time you get any issues, I'll take a look for you - I work for KIA and know fuck all about Subaru's....but I can write a pretty good claim form! LOL!

Difficult to argue with a steering pump or sun roof motor failure. Not a lot you can do to kill them. They should both have working safety cut out/relief valves to avoid failures.

I first took my car to Melville about the noise at full steering lock and they said it was 'normal' and I shouldn't turn my steering full lock WTF
City Subaru straight away said righto we'll replace the power steering pump under warranty

That's the last time I ever deal with Smellville again

You still shouldn't turn any power steering to full lock and hold it there. It holds the reaction valve open allowing the pump to try to push oil into a rack that cannot move any further. The noise is the relief valve screaming for mercy. Be kind to your car, don't hold it on full lock.
