not your average sti v wrx thread

Hey all
Im looking at purchasing a wrx/sti/evo under a 2 year novated lease. Has to be under 2 years old and less than 50xxx and from a registered dealer. Price range is 35-50ishhhhh.
I currently have a 185rwkw 180sx that i am gonna keep and dory on the track and possibly wind the boost up till the aging sr20 pops. So bear in mind my new car will be a daily. And under the lease must remain stockish(im sure i can get away with breathing and exhaust mods+ a tune)
2 years old at max so pig nose or a new one (yuck?).
I drove a stock late model ej205 wrx and lacked some poke..
Does the ej255 have much more torque or is it a marginal differance?
I would love to go the sti or evo for the extra power and features but the cost is considerably more as shown below.

Costs thru the lease.
$36500k on road 07wrx- $305/week/20k to buy the car at the end of the term
$47600 on road 06/07sti- $360 week/26.2k
$54500 on road evo 9- $395 week/30k
(^weekly deductions after tax, not my take home pay)

This may seem steep at first glance but bare in mind that 25000km of fuel is included per year in these calculations as well as insurance(big deal for me at 22 w/1 lisence suspension) and tires servicing fluids washes rego.

So for 55 bucks a week is the sti worth it over the wrx? I tend to think yes, with the brembos, forged internals, variable difs, 6 speed box, bigger IC, better suspension, (anythin else?).
And for another 35 a week on top of that theres the evo 9.
Long winded rant i know but i guess I wanna know if the 2.5l wrx is gonna give me that edge over the GD 2l i drove? or am i gonna have to look at the sti/evo?

depends how much money you are making :)

the evo or sti are nice cars... all sound like total rip offs to me! :) Do you actually do 25kms a year? thats a lot!

I could manage to do 25k a year ;) road trips and hills! free services? She'd be needing them!!

Edit: And if you could afford it grab the evo9. Mean car! more torque i hear than a WRX?

Seems a rip off? Remember this is only a 2 year term.
Try looking at it like this. I get ot 06/07 sti under the above figures, buy it back for the 26200. Sell it for 36k(conservative estimate estimate of resale value in 2010)
All said and done over two years the car cost 360*52*2=37440+ 26200-36k= 27460
Divide by 2 is 13820 a year then by 52 is $265.79 a week to drive an sti.
Fuel 100*52= 5200
Rego= 500
Insurance= 5k+
Services= 5 services * $300?=1500
1 set of tires= $800
=13000
So um $820 a year to drive an sti...Rip off?

Remember if you base it on doing over 25000 km a year and end up only doing 24000 then that can end you up with a big tax bill.

On the numbers you have provided the STi is about 12 grand more over the 2 years after the residual. Probably be close to that in resale difference at the end so cost you more while leasing & closing out lease but end result will not be much.

I did go the STi on a lease and I wouldn't change it for a WRX no matter how much you twisted my arm.

Think you might find the WRX a little "soft" coming from a fairly hardcore car.

Tyres befitting an STi will cost you more than 800 a set.

THat seems way more hassel than it is worth just buy it like normal and then its yours you dont have to worry about selling it back or how many kms u do, if it was your own car you be wanting to keep kms down not make them go higher lol.

Insurance costs 5000?

haven't you just convinced yourself?
but as far as wrx/sti goes, limited mods etc, get the sti
as others have said, some of your figures may need revision also
