I would test drive a 9, an 05STi and an 06 STi then weigh up what you want from the car and what it will cost each one to achieve your end result then make your choice from there.

Not strictly true - the 06+ 6sp box has different ratios. The 05STi DCCD split is 35/65 max, whereas 06+ is 41/59.
