Ashcash - My MY98 will be for sale in about a month..just clicked 150,000km (only 60,000 in last 6 years that I've owned it)...comes with 4 pot brakes, updated 99 front end (incl gen Sti lip)....so very much like a 99/00. Never crashed, mild mods, subaru interval service history, lots more.... Shameless plug.

Wow, talk about making big assumptions about a lawyer and his wealth / where it comes from.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... A GC8 WRX is not a classic collectible car going up in value. A MY00 should really only be worth $10-15k. But Perth crackpipe prices keep them way too high.

Nice buy! To people this sounds like a steal but I garauntee the dealerships would have only offered between 10 & 12K, if that. So the lawyer actually did well.

However, lawyers do make a nice income as we all know. $500k+ for partner.

I also know a lot of lawyers on $50-80k. Working hard and whenever anyone mentions they are a lawyer, instantly people start thinking Ferrari's.
A partner position isn't a norm and is as rare as being a top CEO. Oh and the example of $500k is of an equity partner (i.e. owns part of the business) and includes business drawings (not just wages) for a top legal firm.

Without a doubt getting into a position to be a partner isn't a norm but I would not say it is as rare as being a top CEO.. There are generally two sides to the coin with most professions in relation to earnings and the legal profession is no different. Evidently there are people on 50-80 k as said above and on the flip side there are many solicitors / barristers on big money.
At the end of the day its all a perceived mentality that lawyer = great success. Fact of the matter is like any job you have to work your way up, increase your repertoire of skills and experience and be very good at what you do before big money comes into it. The area of law the solicitor/barrister specialises in also evidently determines their income. Back on topic good luck with the hunt for a gc8 with mild / no mods cannot go past the classics . Personally I would recommend if you plan to further modify the car in the future to hold off and save a bit more cash until you can stretch yourself for a 99/00 STi or even an 02 STi as you have a far better initial platform to work with. |

Id personally do a little more research and get a car that has a few tasteful mods that id want in the future such as straight cut 5 speed or 6 speed, vf/FP/hks turbos, exhausts, fmics etc.
That or just go buy an STi. Doesnt need all these "transplants" and requires just normal servicing and maybe a bigger snail if you are tempted. I spent too much money trying to keep the wrx up with what STi's already have (or close to) and would not do it again.
