Yup I agree. Just because someone advertises their car for $17K doesn't mean they won't accept 3/4k lower. I had 9K knocked off the price of my 350z as the owner had it up for sale for 3 months with no buyers. I'd say you could get at least 2 or 3k of the listed price.

Theres plently out there in your price range, have you looked over east?

Saying that if your strapped for cash maybe a wrx isn't the best option? especially a 10 y/o wrx as things like gearboxes don't come cheap. I had a 300zx TT as my first car and it ate all my money

Also think about insuring it. If you cant afford the 17k for a decent wrx or whatever maybe the insurance is going to hit you hard.

price isn't really an issue. I just want to get something for a good price. test drove a 1997 my98 - really nice, however previous owner had the 3rd gear sycrose redone - is that a mojour problem

advertised for 15.7, what do you think its really work 135k on the odo
minor body scratches (however come with turbo time and lintec exhaust)

I dont entirely agree there. A look around on here will prove my thoughts on this. You have a look at a few people on here, MYREXTC comes to mind, who have high k's. I think his is around 300k on original engine. Others on here have popped a motor before the car reached 50k. All comes down to how is has been treated in the past which is very hard to gauge. Best bet is an inspection by a decent subaru mechanic (ASG, RMS, Tenagah etc) and go from there.

Lol @ people buying nearly 10 year old cars and expecting no kms on them.

I would be suspect of buying a car that has stuff all kms and stuff all servicing done to it. That is why there is the kms and time basis for servicing.

Mine has only just hit 100,000kms for an 00, so its not bad i spose. Can i suggest to you ash that, do some research and maybe a little more saving and buy a my99/00 as you will find they look much nicer with the frontbar and have bigger brakes. Also they can have later model bits added to them pretty easily (STi TMIC, EJ207 replacements, VFseries bolt on turbos, where as i think the 94/5/6 etc are twistmount.

On that topic, when did they become a straight mount setup?

no, there substantial upgrades between the 98 to the 99/00s, its wortth the extra money to get a 99/00, really if your gonna get a classic get a 99 or 00.

98s only have 2 pot front brakes 99/00 have 4, the injectors are bigger, 380cc in the 98 - 440cc in the 99/00), cosmetic upgrade include the bigger rear wing and more aggressive style front bar, momo steering wheel replaces the nardi wheel and a passenger airbag is fitted in the dash rather then a compartment on the 98's. thats about all i can remember between them off the top of my head atm. betweenthe 99 and 00s (00's more conservative i think?) theres not much different, different style of rims and a different ecu tune i think are the only main differences.
