Default WRX vs Liberty Tuned by Sti

Still looking at vehicle options if i sell the Rex.

Just wondering how the Tuned by sti Liberty performs compared to a standard WRX. Is it quicker or handle better from the factory?

Take one for a drive and se if you like???

No point getting a new car if you've never driven one like it...

Plus it's always fun seeing how scared you can get the salesmen on the test drive :0

Very different cars... Definitely take one for a test drive imo...

Out of the box in stock form for MY09's both about the same in terms of power now according to Subaru numbers. Suspension wise you will get Bilstein - STI Pink set up which is not to shabby but far from perfect for tracking. Both require some suspension mods imo. Brake wise well Lib tuned by sti gets Brembos, s/s braided brake lines so the Lib wins hands down here. Inside the cars I would suggest the Lib also wins hands down but the WRX has improved over previous years. Big difference in price between the two cars though so its difficult to make a fair comparison between the two.

I traded a MY06 WRX STI for a MY07 Lib tuned by sti. The WRX STI is feels much more raw and powerful but the Lib was close enough for me stock wise to make the shift and be very happy with it.

You really would want to take both for a test drive but if you like the WRX platform then I reckon you are better off paying less and then spending some money on mods to upgrade brakes, suspension, breathing, zorst and tune.

Will this be your daily driver only or do you intend to track it as well. If you are tracking it then go the WRX.

Liberty STI handles great (08 model)
feels better than the stock 08 STI

probably similar in performance to a stock WRX but a weight disadvantage

The wrx will still be that little bit more nimble, both have the EJ25fail of similar power proportions.

I was meaning more how the Lib would compare to the wrx i have at the moment (MY07) not interested in getting one of the Betty WRX's.

Will try and organise a test drive in a Liberty over the next couple of days.

If it were me and I could afford it, I would love a liberty wagon with the body options..
I have a soft spot for wagons and to me, this one has everything you need.
Plus, it's not just another wrx.. (not that it's bad, just different)

I wouldn't think you'd be disappointed!... Having gone from my peanut wrx with 300hp to the Liberty, it is a reasonably big step up in every way except for power/agility! Which can still be improved fairly easily!

I would recommend going for the 07+ facelifted model of the Liberty, although you will pay a fair bit more (mid to high $30k's for an 05/06 Vs high $40k's to $50k's for an 07+) you will get a nicer looking front and rear end plus the brembo brakes and 6spd manual box!

That said, if you are not overly fussed about having the limited edition model, the only difference between the GT Spec B and the Tuned by STi is:
Front Lip
Brembo brakes
STi exhaust
retuned ECU
Rear lip spoiler
STi embroidered seats

Which can all be had very easily aftermarket(bar the interior), and I would think you would be changing the exhaust again even from the STi

I had the STI liberty and was a fabulous drive, extremely comfortable and well put together, it even handled reasonably well at speed with a cusco catalogue thrown at it
