Just bought my first rex and have a few questions!

Hi everyone
My names Trent I've just moved to Perth from Tassie and just have a few questions. The MY99 I just bought is currently regestered In Vic and has been over here for nearly a year. When I transfer rego will I need a road worthy? If so, will it pass with a bov, exaust and lower suspension?

No road worthy, will need to pass pits. Bov wont pass if it makes noise, exhaust too loud, car lower than 100mm.

If you only just bought it, and it is registered in VIC, then don't drive it.

To get it inspected here you will need a temp movement permit to allow
you to drive it to the inspection center.

Unless YOU owned the car yourself in VIC for at least a year then it is now
considered unregistered in WA. This catches lots of people out, especially
because your insurance will not pay if you have a prang.

How did you pay for it ?
Did you get a receipt ?
Did you know that VIC govt will not let you transfer it into your name coz you don't live there ? Even so, do not fill in VIC transfer papers.

WA licencing will need some sort of proof of purchase, eg receipt from previous
owner. Eg, a letter from them saying they have sold it to you and for how much
you paid for it.

The best way is a letter from the previous owner saying you own bought it from
them. Take that with you when getting inspected/licensed and the WA guys
will take you VIC plates and send them back to VIC for you. Don't take the car
down there without the plates. They will not license the vehicle here if they
are unable to de-licence it in VIC. You can't have 2 sets of plates for one car
unless you want to make problems for yourself.

Once inspected as OK, you will need to pay licence AND transfer fee immediately
at a licencing center.

Hope this helps a bit.

^^^ Excellent advice. I was unaware of the law regarding interstate cars when I bought my car. I drove it for about 8 weeks and even got pulled over for speeding in that time and the cop didnt fine me. I only found out when I took the car to the pits for WA rego that the inspector asked for my permit. I was confused as it had 7 months rego left on it. Apparently I had been driving unlic for 8 weeks.

Bugger! Thanks guys.
I have a vic roads aplplication for transfer of rego that they printed off the net. its filled in with all details and price (payed cash by the way). Does anyone know of a place to get these things temporarily fixed eg. take off bov and exhaust and bolt on a standard. I've only been here a month and most of my mates no fk all about cars so any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

What exhaust is on it? Is it super loud? If not should be ok as long as it has a cat in it.
Is BOV atmospheric or plumb back?
I am sure someone on here would have a standard BOV they could loan to get over pits. I had one but gave it away. If your BOV is plumb back it will be fine.
Minimum ride height is 100mm from lowest point on car. Alot of guys get knocked back for this as their exhaust hangs lower.

Heres a few pics if that helps. I Just want to drive it without worry asap.

yep bov needs to go, not sure about the boost controller. Make sure exhaust isnt catless. motor and underbody looks neat so should be ok once those minor things are fixed.

jzr 07-05-2009 12:31 PM

i have GX-REX's stock BOV so you can have that. its as simple as undoing 2 bolts and then re tighening. Should take you less than 5 minutes to change.

Then measure your ride height, 100mm to the lowest point on your car. Mine was my exhaust. These look like the 2 things that may need to be done before going over the pits.

phizzle 07-05-2009 12:32 PM

Looks like you'll get knocked back on the exhaust for too low, possibly too loud. Put a stocker on just to be sure.

4kicks 07-05-2009 11:57 PM

That helps heaps thanks guys!! I'll do some digging tomorrow and hopefully book it in to go over the pits. How much is it to do that? I bet they shaft you. I've spent most of my remaining travel money on the car so I'll definatly take jzr up on your offer mate! I can drop it back to you once it goes over the pits. Thats a huge help! I can also pick up a stock exaust from silo's_sube. So does anyone know a cheap exhaust place that will chuck it on? I love perth but it just sux not being in the know when it comes to cars. This forum has been a huge help!

Hey man I spotted you tonight at Caltex on Powis St you were cleaning your back window, I was the guy staring at your car hahaha In the Nissan Navara ! :D. Nice Neat clean example of some GC8 Loving mate ! It looks like you maintain it really really well, good to see.

mr_psi 08-05-2009 12:57 PM

i would also recommend you take that boost controller off. not for pit reasons but just for the saftey of your engine.

Mettams Mufflers are pretty Cheap and if its a plain exhaust swap then it should be no worries for them.

4kicks 08-05-2009 01:43 PM

Sweet thanks again man! I went to the pits today just to get them to give me a rough idea and sounds like it is just the exhaust and bov but I am told I need the vent covers on and I only have the left one!! So if anyone has any spare LHS vent covers to sell or just borrow for a day?!

wrxwgn 08-05-2009 03:12 PM

i have one

4kicks 08-05-2009 04:18 PM

Never mind sorry man the people who sold me the car found the other one lol.

WRXTASY 09-05-2009 08:42 AM

Instead of buying a new exhaust, you might be lucky and be able to bolt up the standard factory one to the centre pipe just to get it over the pits. Any workshop listed should have one lying around otherwise lots of members here would have a factory one they can loan you for free :)

Also the boost controller, either remove it or set it up to not go over 15 PSI.

If your on a budget buy the Possumlink ECU or the Power FC in the for sale section and get your car tuned.

A word of warning as well, DONT fuck around putting a pod filter or any oiled filter for that matter on this model of WRX - you will stuff the air flow meter and likely kill an engine.

Welcome.

4kicks 25-05-2009 07:13 PM

Hey guys I'm still on the hunt for a stock bov that will get me over the pits. Does anyone have one lying around for a lend or buy??

4kicks 25-05-2009 07:17 PM

Stevo B 25-05-2009 07:42 PM

4kicks 12-07-2009 01:43 PM

Ok still didn't pass because she’s too low so if anyone has any stock springs they want to sell or lend? Or if anyone knows of a suspension place that would have any kickin around? The rego runs out very soon so I’m pretty desperate to get it passed asap. Thanks to everyone who has helped out allong the way!

4kicks 13-07-2009 03:42 PM

Almost there..
Can anyone recommend a suspension and exhaust place? Just need to swap springs over and small weld in the exhaust??
