i reckon it would be better for a L plater to learn in a performance car. Least they been getting the experience in a car they find it a lil bit harder to control with an experienced driver. least it aint a rear wheel or front wheel drive performance car. 2 things i reckon ppl need to do once they get their licence. Crash in a controlled environment and go through a licence test every 10 yrs. Pilots and im pretty sure sea captains but not to sure on that have to take a test often. Cars are where there are more deaths tho. also when u experience a crash u SORTA drive a bit more careful.

The problem with the archaic "prohibited vehicle" list that they use in NSW, is the safest cars IE Mercedes C180K, are banned from being driven by P platers....with their plethora of air bags, and 100kw of fury, they are banned beacuse they are "supercharged"

YET, any P plater can jump in a 175kw Commodore, and kill themselves any day of the week.

NO turbodiesels are banned either, and the latest Audi A6 TDi will put the shits up an SS or an XR8! Wheres the intelligence in that??

It should be based on the performance stats of the vehicle maker.

A similar problem exists with motorbikes. R-E class of license restricts riders
to 250cc only, but the famed RGV-250 2-stoke is highly dangerous, has killed
heaps of people and as such is impossible (last I heard) to get insurance for.
A crappy old 400 Yamaha 4-stroke is crap off the line, has no powerban
and banned from being ridden by restricted bike riders.

Makes no sense. Yet another way the governement is making a genuine effort
to ensure that licensing is fair, safe and based of good descision making.
