05 Roadnoise
Hi guys,
After being in a friends MY02 and then getting back in my MY05, I couldn't help but notice the amount of roadnoise in my car. I was wondering what would make my car have so much more road noise than the 02?

I don't think its just tyres, as the 02 has had 2 sets of different brand tyres on it and said it has always been quiter than the roadnoise from my car. (Although I'm not sure if the stock 02 tyre is the same as the stock 05 tyre?)
I'm getting mine serviced soon, so I might ask the subaru guys if the noise is abnormal as I also have a whining noise at about 92-95km/hr (no not the mrs ) which I want them to look at as well.

Yep, the whining noise will be your diff.
Subaru replaced mine 3 TIMES under warranty, for the whining noise. 2 were from a certain dealer that I wont mention, and 1 was Subaru Osborne park who did a fantastic job on the diff, it hasnt made any noise since!! Last edited by BALISTC; 07-12-2005 at 11:49 AM. |

maybe your mate's 02 has sound deadening material in the door panels? most ppl do it when upgrading their speakers.

Nope, both cars are completely stockers.
I was thinking that it may be there is a change of brand/type of stock tyre on the 05 compared to the 02, or a lack of deadening on the 05 or would it be due to the suspension changes (05 has inverted struts like the STi?).

I have a stocky my05 wrx and have a similar diff noise when decelarating in gear at about 90kms. Have spoken to subi several times re this noise and they tell me its normal--normal for what? a noise diffed car? Still haven't got them to change it though..may get next service elswehere and try my luck again..

i wouldn't blame dealers for replacing a diff and it still whines. "someone" told me it was a known fault and that FHI have revised the diffs which would be why you now don't have a problem. i have to wait till feb for mine. but my 03 sti has a nice loud whine at 99-101km/h yep, smack on freeway speeds. lovely..
lets just say that if your's whines... and it's under warranty, it's worth taking to a dealer. if they tell you it's normal, tell them it's not acceptable, speak to the person in charge, take action. don't do what i have done in the past and take "it's normal" for an answer, then again, if you own a bike, trust me, that's the ONLY answer you get. as for roadnoise (on topic), normally tyres are the answer, and tyres HAVE changed as far as i'm aware from 02 to 05, then again NVH can have something to do with it.. is your car standard in every way? |
