based on some recent studies, the US are going the total opposite and banning all speed cameras. 14 states now.

Would be good if that happened here but doubt it would happen as its a major part of the governments income.

Ahh observation. Alot of people actually dont have this. I had some retarded lady try and reverse out of her bay, as i was reversing out. I stopped and let her go, she kept going and going and going till i had to change gears and put it into first to get back into my bay in which she STILL almost hit me.

I agree aswel, speeding is one factor of dangerous driving. Putting on makeup is just as bad as talking on your phone which is proberly worse then speeding yet its hardly targeted. I find in sydney people generally travel slowly near fixed speed cameras which are setup on hills, corners, intersections that are generally dangeous and have claimed lives before.

In Sydney there are 5+ signs before you get to the fixed camera!! If you are stupid enough to speed after that then you deserve to get pinged

yeah but in sydney you have gigantic warning signs pre-camera also.

the best example of which is the ride down from Kanimbla... sign 1 'OMGHAIHOWRU!? p.s Speed Cam Ahead.. kthxbai!', another 100m, sign #2 'ZOMGZOMG Spdcam ahead!' then sign #3 'GET READY FOR IT!'

if you are speeding at this point, you clearly have no comprehension of english and should hurriedly make your way back to bankstown/lakemba/liverpool..

what do we get? no warning, a flash, a lol, and a finger.

The point of a fixed camera is to stop people speeding at certain locations that kill people. Such as on the way to maroobra (spelling?) theres a downwards hill that goes onto a bridge. The last thing you need is another skaifey doing 180km/h in the wet off the bridge and into the river below.

Eric I have to agree and yet disagree mate. I completely understand the point of the ones in black spots, however most of the fixed ones I have driven past many a time in Sydney are just around bends or just after a set of lights. Not one of those locations has ever had a fatality and I lived there for over 16years.

I do see the ones on the m5 and shit and wonder what the point was of them, but seriously, what would anyone rather, cameras hidden in a bin or behind a car to get your money or ones that MAKE people slow down in a certain area because you know if you dont, you will get fined.

Also, have we ever had a thought and wondered if those spots that they have cameras (excluding the stupid places like the free ways) were deemed dangerous by say, a local authority. They could have statistics of people speeding there, not nessasarily having fatalities but near on fatalities.

The solution is simple, assuming they really want a solution (not just revenue)
Have fixed speed cameras at hundreds of locations, in plain view. Only a few of the boxes actually need to have a camera inside (same as redlight cameras) They change the camera to a different box every so often. They will catch the people who habitually speed or daydream, not alert drivers.

So much for attempting to deter drivers from speeding. Spotted this yesterday on Beaufort street:

Note the car hidden behind the tree branches on the right.
