NEITHER - Both cars should be driving around the city with a little box on the roof and a person who doesnt know there way around Perth at the steering wheel ( TAXI ) !!!

SublimeForester 22-08-2009 03:38 PM

as said previously straight 6's arent true muscle. If muscle is your desire go for the V8. Your already in a real performance car with the STi so the performance factor shouldnt really sway you.
Also a good point was made about the GTS and the Clubby. You could save some money and do without the 20s, the badge, the MCS(?) (magnetic suspension thing -a- me), but I suspect the reason you want muscle is for its lazy, effortless torque which makes for a nice cruiser? ( of course I am just assuming here) If that is the case why not look at a Senator? They depreciate like a biatch which means you could score a great deal. They are super plush and comfy, same V8 and the boot lip spoiler is uber cool!
As always its your money and your decision, take em all for a drive and see which one fits in with your reason for purchasing in the first place.

As a side note, in my experience with detailing many examples of both FPV and HSV, the Fords seem to fall apart quicker. things like rust coming through in the boot drainage channels, and the same in the engine bay. interior trim coming loose, marking easily etc etc. Also the Ford paint is softer than the Holden and can mar up quicker, but since youre already in a Subaru (with epically soft paint) that shouldnt really matter ;)

Good luck with the decision.

Zombee 22-08-2009 05:40 PM

Thanks for all the replies, it is interesting the comments made! SublimeForester has pretty much summed it up. The STi will stay as the true performance car and be used for track days (which it already is) and the muscle car will be the cruiser and long distance hauler. I think the GTS will get the guernsey purely for its more muscle car look and the big V8 under the bonnet. I know the F6 can be a weapon, only need to look at Ramon's car for proof there, but the GTS wouldn't be a car that I throw heaps at. It will probably just get a zorst, tune, intake and lowered and that'll be about it. The performance money will be spent on the STi.

Now the colour... I've always like black, but I think the black HSV's are hard to pick fromt the black SS's. Whereas the red or the white ones do stand out. Have a look at this white Clubsport with GTS black rims... not bad.. not bad at all..

There is one of these in silver at the end of my street for sale. The dude has only had it for probably 6 months max. If you want the number, I will get it for you the next time I drive past the car.

He took the rear wing off it but it is back on now. I think it looked better without it.

GTS all the way - only because I prefer the sound and the way it drives.

Driven both and it's just a personal preference thing IMO. Both are seriously quick!

Coming to the conclusion that one is superior to the other is complete rubbish!

I went through a similar dilemma re: XR6 Turbo or SSV etc.

Full exhaust, OTR intake and a mafless tune really open them up. Once you get board of that - a decent 23x cam will see you laughing :D

Holy shit I've turned into a trev - I think I need to see a doctor!

White GTS, Black rims. Win.

rt charger, 265 hemi, tripple webbers.

ive been in a ve walkinshaw w427 (a few times)

the walkinshaw wins hands down. its pure sex, 7 litres of power, the red leather, 20" mags, 6 pot brakes, not to mention the carbon fibre rear spoiler. woo!! lol

never been in a gts, but from what a few people on here said, a red or black ve gts, red leather, with a marks workshop whipple supercharger, tune and exhaust + Walkinshaw Performance Power Hood Scoop = win.

that gorgeous red leather makes me wet.

good luck with your choice.

FFOUR 25-08-2009 11:20 AM

For that money neither of these two cars but if I had to pick one I'd go with the HSV.

Purely based on my personal taste as I haven't driven either.

NVRENUF 25-08-2009 11:44 AM

For that money I would not be putting it into a Holden or ford
no matter how much power it has to me its just a commodore.
Personally I would be looking at Merc or Audi.

Even the c200 Merc can be had for 65k to 70k
Just couldn't bring my self to spend decent coin on a Holden or ford.
Least any euro car you get something for your money.

EXPLICIT 25-08-2009 12:06 PM

GTS, as a daily driver, the effortless torque and noise from the 8 is hard to beat. I6T from the F6 is a great engine (for Australia at least) and mated with the ZF 6 speed auto, goes hard. And if straight line speed is your thing, F6 is easy to go fast in.

But the GTS is still more rounded as a daily.

Jimmy S 25-08-2009 12:20 PM

I voted for the F6... but I think given the option I'd probably get into a VE... Something about 8 cylinders and 6.2L of fun... and I think I'd be less inclined to modify it as much... Plus they just look soo tough..

skitzyrex1 25-08-2009 08:25 PM

A bloke at works GTS with Walkinshaw kit and twin turbo. Its now fitted with a senator rear spoiler.

silvascoob 25-08-2009 10:36 PM

The VE interiors will age very rapidly as its all put together with "christmas tree" clips. The F6 is quicker than the GTS but it lacks traction. the F6 is supposed to handle better and has better in gear acceleration. Oh and the gts has an oil cooling problem as well.

having said all of this i would have the GTS.
you cant beat the noise that a throaty V8 makes :)

CJ-WRX 26-08-2009 08:38 AM

if you want something fast or powerful though a newish base model euro is never going to satisfy!!!

although the build quality definitely shits all over the locals - my old mans got a new C class and it feels built 100 times better than my F6, just lacks any kind of performance..

I would never bother with a GTS, go the clubby and whack a blower on it if you really love the V8 rumble

Huy 26-08-2009 12:59 PM

I love the look of the VE HSV's but, seriously, how fucking many are there on the road. God damn. I honestly think i see one every 2 minutes.

BAS 26-08-2009 06:47 PM

I've just been through exactly this process mate, have been in good hard drives in both cars back to back.

For me the GTS looks better even after a few years- i was going to go white, black rims and Senator spoiler. The interior is appalling though. IMO handles better than the F6 with the MRC. A set of coilovers on the Ford would change that though.

F6 is far nicer inside, and depending on colour can look really good. But forget about the 0-100 times- the F6 is far far quicker once moving. I think it struggles to get power down off the line, but once moving will blow the GTS to the weeds.

There should be some good deals on the GTS' at the moment, but for me i had pretty much decided on the F6.

That was until a really nice 2006 E46 M3 popped up which i bought- its not quite as quick but the build quality is seriously in another league.

nang3 27-08-2009 06:40 AM

^^ just outta interest mate, how many kms/options and coin was the E46?? i still farken love those farkers!

yeah your right, guess it all depends what a person is after.

I went for quality over performance this time.

Not like you can use the performance of half these cars day to day anyway.

nang3 28-08-2009 07:46 AM

^^ yeh thats true!! even using 1/2 throttle in the wet in 1st thru 3rd half the time would qualify me as a kitten raping pensioner slaughtering Hoon nowadays..

if only our govt had the progressive thinking of the german govt!@

Tommosaurus 28-08-2009 12:14 PM

What about the HSV GTO? I've never been in one, but they always looked tough.
Weren't some of them AWD too?

Zombee 28-08-2009 12:18 PM

Yep, considered the Coupe's. A nice HSV Coupe GTS in yellow would be cool, but with a rugrat on the way, I think a 2 door is going to be a pain in the ass.

There was a AWD coupe - the Coupe 4. Auto only.

I'd be more concerned about the ground. Those things are built pretty tough and weigh half what a Sherman tank does. Likely to pound a crater resembling an asteroid strike and keep going without even noticing.

Bet the dude in the drivers seat grunted on the landing and let out a few expletives :D :D :D
