FPV or GTS
G'day All,
I will be lookig at getting my modern muscle car (to go with my STi) in the next 6 months. I've narrowed it down to a HSV 6.2L GTS or an FPV FG F6. I thought I'd ask the guys here on what would be your preference? Pointless asking this on the Holden/Ford forums. The car will be second hand as I can't justify the $ on a new one as we all know the depreciation on new Holdens/Fords. The GTS I reckon looks tougher and sounds better, but the F6 is meant to be the quicker car. Whadya reckon? Cheers Zombee |
FPV FG F6 without a doubt!
|
f6 all the way
|
You ask for muscle, id go for the GTS.
Extractors, exhaust, tune and you'd get muscle. 6.2ltrs of growl.. |

Gts.
|
i love the gts look, but personally i would get the f6
|
F6 for the win!
|
I thought we were talking muscle though, when i hear muscle i hear cubes. Not inline 6's :P plus wack a turbo on it and you'll proberly become a digit on the road toll list if thats what you are chasing... :D
|
F6
FG is just a so much better car then the VE F6, tune, enjoy. |
I draw the line on the Holden side in any argument cos I grew up being a Brocky fan but if I was stumping my own hard earned for either of them ( Hell would freeze over first ) it would be on a Ford.
Borrowing the old mans VY S Commonwhore at the moment and hate it. Drove the brother in laws new to him 2004 XR8 ute last week and a mates 2005 GTP a few years ago and really liked them. Wouldn't swap the STi for them though!!! |
i wont pretend to know anything about the gts but i can carry on all day about the f6.
the fg6's are a good thing and a serious improvement over the b series. good points first.... first and foremost out of the box completely standard they push out 320rwkw's which is just massively contradicting the claimed flywheel horsepower and if you consider a ba/f struggles to do 250rwkw. a gt and gtp with a claimed "315" from factory struggle to break into the 300's...so what does that say about the psychology of numbers as to not offend the bread and butter v8 heartland! if that doesn't impress you then a set of injectors, fmic, exhaust & edit these thing lay down 400rwkw all day everyday! so for the cost of about 5000 fitted and tuned it has to be the best bang for buck car out there regardless of price bracket. 400rwkw in full street trim is capable of low 11`s even knocking in the 10's in auto guise. if going manual, the twin plate ap clutch was dropped in favor of a beefier single plate which means its a nicer thing for day to day. the t56 was upgraded to a 6060 tremec but sadly again using the 23 spline input shaft. good news here is that the upgrade is easy and cost effective. the zf 6 speed is unchanged but now the edit guru's have made tuning a possibility to hold down shift points for longer and harder (but seriously why consider auto?). now the bad news..... the diff bush is still causing grief, the brakes in standard form are woeful and the pedal feel is not there, unless ticking the 6/4 caliper upgrade the 4/single suffers from serious pad knock. handling is best described as boatish and the factory "premium" sound system should never be turned on for fear your ears will go deaf due to disappointment. now all the above can be improved upon and transform each and every aspect of the car and the upgrades don't cost the earth and everything is available off the shelf. in standard fare its a nice car, modded and upgraded its an awesome car. ill take my bias cap off now! |
Neither they are both heaps of shit.
I can definitely confirm this for the F6. Hideous piece of shit. *Disclaimer.... My F6 was a complete fucking lemon and I will never own a FPV for as long as I live. Also after seeing my dad deal with transmission problem in his HDT Grange, 3 engines, a diff, the body being misaligned to the chassis and a transmission in his SV99 and 4 engines in his Caprice, I would stick to Japanese or European |
in all fairness daniel you got a demo baii which wouldn't set the world on fire even if it had a box of matches and a zippo!
brother in laws bf6 has had all the issues ironed out and its a jet of a car, currently making 330rwkw with standard clutch, 40.000kms of ownership and the only headache has been the bonnet latch and the central locking motor. |
F6 all the way :)
|
You are right, but still parting with that kind of money and having such a piece of shit, with no help from ford. Fuck Ford and the horse it rode in on.
|
GTS for muscle car hands down...where's the poll ?
|
if by muscle you mean muscle head.
supercharged ls3 wouldn't be a bad thing, but pushrods, seriously! |
What about an old school Camaro or Mustang?? ;)
|
Poll added on request.
Cheers Zombee |
The F6 is far superior performance wise (as everyone has already stated), but if it's muscle you want, go the GTS!
6.2 litre V8 was it? 307kw from factory? can't go wrong with that! |
What about an old school Camaro or Mustang?? ;)
Carburetted v8's - totally inefficient, unpractical, and costly. Boy do they sound great though. Go the old school muscle!! |
gts!! for sure..
pure muscle and awesome growl |
6.2 litre V8 was it? 307kw from factory?
317kw atm with an upgrade in the next couple of weeks with Series II The GTS is where my heart is, but the F6 seems to win all the camparo's |
Id go the GTS. 6.2L manual 6Spd all the way in black HOOOTTTT
they keep their value quiet good too, was never a fan of fords i just sold my maloo and now selling the s15 to get into a VE R8 Clubbie thats all i can afford but still good :D |
Get a REAL Muscle Car. Audi RS4. or if you like 6s. BMW 335i
*Flame suit ON* :p |

*Flame suit ON* :p
+3!!! By "Performance" I assume most of you are talking about staright line as per usual. FPV's are quick yer, however after driving tons of each model round wanners over the last few years... I'd go the Holden for all round track "performance". The Fords still felt like they'd grabbed mum and dads car and simply shoved a nasty turbo into it to up the power and appeal to straight-liner traffic light heroes? (Now THAT is a flame suit comment Ludwig! ;) ). The newer models may have improved since then, but I wasn't that impressed with the older batch on the track... (PS- I've never been a holden or ford man if that helps with unbiased opinion) |

I agree the F6 is probably the quicker car, but I was not impressed with the G series F6 when i was in it. Also, you say muscle car, I don't see how u can even consider an inline 6 as a muscle car! Sounds strange!!
However, the GTS, slap on a walkinshaw bonnet, wipple charger, exhaust, and brakes and enjoy the growl of 6.2L of muscle! I recon they are pretty hard to go past. That would be my choice anyway. Even maybe the super-clubby? As seen on Top Gear. Hot! |
Really tough choice. I think both cars look great, the FG F6 is far and away the sleeker (sleeper if there is such a thing when talking F6's) looking car, whereas the VE HSV looks a lot tougher. Both can make bulk power and torque reasonably easy, in the Fords case it'll definitely end up cheaper kw for kw. If it were me, I'd go the HSV take it to Mark's Workshop, stick a positive displacement supercharger and all the other good bits on it and enjoy 1000+ Nm and 600rwhp and endless rear tyre bills :D
|
Go the GTS and like a bloke at work has done recently, Add a twin turbo setup. Its off its head. :D
|

(which somehow I managed to catch in between furiously vomiting in my mouth and throwing inanimate objects at the telly). And I believe it's considerably cheaper too. |
Wingless Black on Black GTS
Fkn porn. You want muscle ?? .. Sure the FG6 is more than likely quicker, but how can you say no to 6.2ltrs of gut wrenching torque ? :D :D :D :D |
If you do decide to go the GTS... step away from the common-folk... :)
Take the Evoke... NOT the phantom... ;) Class, tasteful, understated. Porn! Brent. :) P.S - I hate you - for having the choice! LOL. :p :D |
RED
GTS hmmm....... |
Get the walkinshore gts, they come out with 470rwhp and full factory warranty, they are a beast with all the duks nuts gear already in them... also got to be getting down in price if ya can find one...
|
considering the engine and drive;line is the same, I would opt for an R8 clubby. If you can save a few $$ by not getting a GTS (and paying the premium for a badge) , you will be able to splash it on some tasteful improvements.
Although, i did see a black FG F6 with black wheels, dark tint, lowered and what seemed to be a set of black BRIDE seats. looked and sounded hot. drive them both and let your bum decide. decisions, decisions |
