here, this is how it's set up. doug recommended doing this as it'll probably put less strain on my center diff.

FL: 205/40/17 0--------0 FR: 215/40/17
|
|
|
RL: 225/45/17 0--------0 RR: 205/40/17

so, essentially the two diffs are contradicting each other. Between the 205 and 225; there's about 25mm difference in tyre diameter.

Dude,

If your worrying about driving on a mismatch, as you should be, try this:

Put your car on 4 stands in the garage/driveway, remove the 2/3/4 rims that need new rubber, (im not sure what the best tyre size is for 17", or how wide your wheel is), chuck them in a second car/mates car, go to tyre store, get to them to remove old/put on new....? Drive home, fit, strings wheel alignment... Problem solvered...?

For the record, I have always had great service and good prices at West State Tyres, (Albany Highway Bentley - Better when Brad was there...) And they always have cheap stock on hand. Well worth a look...

Brent.

+1.
Don't drive the car, other wise you will probably end up needing a new diff as well as tyres...

The thing that I don't understand is that the car (prior to me buying it) was able to be driven for a prolonged period of time without any significant damage to the center diff.

How the tyres are configured now, I don't think it would be too bigger issue over short distances and at slow speeds.

Just because it was not crying in pain wouldnt really mean it wasnt being damaged. I think any distance at any speed would be harmful. If one wheel is spinning quicker then the other because it has a smaller circumference its putting strain on the diff.

Shame i dont have my car, i could of gone to your house with a complete set of 16's/18's, put them on and gone to get new tyres.

All has since been rectified.

Thankfully, I picked up some decent maxxis treads from bobjane in claremont (relatively expensive but I needed to get this sorted asap). Now the lib has 205/40/17's all around - not the widest - but atleast there's no more strain on my center diff

You'll all be seeing me around regularly for now on in

BobJane's and Maxxis

If they were expensive you should have gone to one of
the many shops recommended2 and gone with a better tyre
for prob the same price or cheaper.

Not many tyre shops are open past 12pm on a Saturday, I needed to get this sorted asap.

Not too phased anyway, lol
