i still wonder why people bitch and moan about fuel consumption, expensive servicing/parts...

You bought a performance car!

The old adage you play you pay is appropriate i think....

I couldnt care less about fuel consumption, if you want good fuel consumption buy a corolla for work and keep the STi as a weekend car.

Thought I would add...

It really depends on my driving mood as to how the consumption goes, usually around the 300 mark, fill up as soon as the light comes on.

What engine is it? 1994cc
What mods that may affect fuel? TBE, VF34, De-Caps, Verso, 246hp ATH

I don't give a crap how much I use flogging around but I do value usability and depending where you go if you struggle to get 500km per tank and you need 98 you need to take a Jerry can.

There is no reason why "Cruise" economy can't be fairly good even if it drinks like a fish when having fun.

I'm also very interested in this...

In the market for an 05 sti and would prefer not to chew up heaps of fuel during the week just cruising to and from work...

Would it be impossible for a stockish 05 sti to be getting around 500kms per tank?

Also, when you guys say verso tune for performance and economy, why don't the cars come like that from factory? Is there a reason why the Sti's run rich from the showroom?

You can definitely get around 500km with an STi but it'll be pretty hard to!
Not because the car can't do it, but because of your right foot.

Verso for performance and economy not because it greatly improves your fuel economy, but because it is a performance retune that doesn't cause excess fuel consumption. One of the reasons that a Verso tune can improve fuel economy is because the engine runs more efficiently due to the associated mods (ie: free flowing exhaust, intake etc)
