Opps..Seems there was some type of box thing around the aircleaners from factory on the Toranas. Just checked with 1 of my buddys. They took them off to allow better airflow.

yeah open vents on the bonnet is suppose to be illegal as they say fluid could get on windsheild. just get it done so that u can easily take of the grill and put the bonnet scoop back on. be the best way. if ur goin to get a yellow ur goin to get a yellow. just make it easier to get it back to normal.

Well I'd rather not make it easier for them Narchi!!! ha ha ha And a reversed scoop or meshed hole in the bonnet is pretty easy to spot..

My reasoning behind it all is that I figure with the TMIC gone the air rushing into the engine bay would cause airflow problems for the FMIC by creating a too much positive pressure under the hood.. Would this be the case or am I way off the mark?

Cheers

I dont know how great an effect it would have. There is a fair amount of room for the air being scooped in at the bonnet to flow down the fire wall and out underneath.

But i reckon there would be some merit in the evo styled bonnet (Was it a Trial bonnet) with the venting at the front.

This sort of thing but for a rexy.

Wonder if you can get a Carbon fibre or fibreglass bonnet for a wrx that has vents like that (or like skyline ones) without the bonnet scoop. I haven't seen any...

Legend Toke thanks for that...

Memo to FM IC users
Do not reverse your scoop. If open to the back it will receive air from the high pressure zone in front of the windscreen which is a larger catchment area than the scoop itself. You will get worse IC cooling.
To improve front to back airflow in engine bay, replace scoop with a cover, maybe install outlet ducts from the engine bay just behind the front wheels tho’ there’s plenty of airflow capacity downwards as CDR RA says.

Memo to TM IC users
The reverse applies. Reversing the scoop will give a fraction more cool air to the IC than if the scoop were facing forward.

Hmmm... woulda thought that if this was the case then FHI would have designed it this way? I'm no airflow expert but I'm thinkin that a forward facing scoop would have a stronger, more direct airflow than a reversed scoop relying on the windscreen pressure zone, which would produce slightly warmer(perhaps?) & more turbulent airflow. I spose it's a matter of accurate measurements from wind tunnel testing before this question could be put to rest.

Meanwhile, back to my humble trade...
