Default Collie Track junkies news flash

Not sure how recent an addition it is but went through Collie today and the Caltex now has Vortex 98.

I'm sure it will make life much easier for those that venture down without a car trailer and a few 44's to feed the need for speed

Pretty much all the fuel that you get in Perth and most of the Southwest region comes from the BP Kwinana Refinery, Regardless of which station you fill up at. In other words Caltex wholesale buy their 98 product from the same place that BP does. Fuel watch actually had an article about Perth supply a while ago, Probably still there if you want to read about it.

I had heard this a few years ago. BP owns pretty much all the oil rigs in WA so most of the fuel on the market in WA is from BP. What really sucks is knowing this how the heck did the Arab fuel markets affect our market?

Most of the oil rigs off the coast are owned by Chinese companies. A mate of mine works as a medic looking after roughnecks and he constantly complains that he can't find a non Chinese rig to go work on. Incidentally 70% of the crude that BP Kwinana use is imported so I'm guessing we mainly export what oil is pumped locally. I think most, if not all of the offshore mining that is done off our coast is natural gas.

I've always wondered if the other fuel companies modify the U98 before they sell it.

They buy the fuel from the same source but they modify it with different additives. Hence why BP is the only company to guarantee their fuel is 98 or above when it comes out of the nozzle.

Thats correct! All comes from the same place initially but then additives are mixed in. My dad was the distribution manager for Caltex a few years ago.
