09 wrx
Hi, I recently picked up an 09 WRX hatch in Dark Grey from over east and thought I had better join up...
Very impressed with power, pretty disappointed with the handling side of things of course... Anyway, spent $1062 today getting some fr + r swaybars and an ALK installed and now I am very happy. If you have an 08/9 and haven't done this yet, don't hesitate. Great value. Next is a short shift kit, TBE and tune and (when one exists) a decent spring/strut combo, and that'll be it.... Can anyone who has installed a short shift kit on the 5 speed give me some feedback? |

There is already coil overs available. As for the short shifter I have taken mine in and out like 6 times as I helped Ultrex develop it so any Q?'s fire away!

Another owner of an MY08 here.
Had the following done by John and the lads @ Wheels World and the car now feels like a wrx. 22mm front swaybar 20mm rear swaybar front control arm brace front strut tower bar (more for kicks than anything else ) roll center kit white line lowering springs (should have gone for coilovers at the time) Has a short shifter from Ultrex installed for the last few weeks and feels much better than the stock shifter. Hopefully will be doing the tbe and tune sometimes this year. |

Thanks for the replies. I am not too keen on putting coilovers in my car, I am being told from multiple sources that I would need to spend 3-3.5k to get a set that won't ride like sh*t.
I went for w/line 24mm fr and 22mm rr sway bars and asked for a small oversteer bias. The car turns brilliantly and bodyroll has been gretaly reduced... As for the s/shifter, are you both happy with the difference? How much would I be looking at including installation? Cheers Mike |

For me installing the short shifter took about 2 hours, mainly because I was extremely worried about possibly breaking or scratching the centre console as I took it apart.
That said, once the gear shifter was exposed, it took about 5 to 10 minutes to remove it, setup the Ultrex shifter and reinstall it. Loved it straight away, feels much quicker compared to the stock shifter. |

Whitemy08: Cheers mate, I'll let you know when I get one....
Russ, I'm pretty new to AWD, but myself and the mrs are stoked with the results... It's a different car. It used to understeer lots. She has been driving a nicely mod'd 2005 MX5 SE with 140 RWKW @ 1000kgs so handling is very important to her... |

Got the short shifter yesterday, installed it today (whitemy08: cheers for the offer, my mechanic helped me put it in for me today no charge). Great improvement, especially for such little outlay.
Also put the front lip spoiler on today which looks great. Really good service from Ultrex. Nice to have somone based in Perth for a change too... |
