TurboXS TBE & TUNE MY09 WRX

Got a TurboXS 3" TBE with extra resonator fitted and a Verso tune today @ Allstar Garage. Very happy with both the exhaust and the tune. 261hp and 343 calc Nm on the ASG hub dyno. Great service, no hassles.

The exhaust is very quiet at idle, and has a nice note under throttle. Not a cop magnet or enough to piss my very tolerant mrs off, but loud enough to keep me happy...

I couldn't find much feedback about the TurboXS with resonator on an MY09 so here it is for anyone else thinking about it...

monkeee 09-03-2010 12:00 PM

How does it pull when on boost after the tune mate?

Enjoy the boxer rumble :D

EXPLICIT 09-03-2010 12:28 PM

Do a vid and load it up on youtube, would be greatly appreciated by many betty owners im sure :D

MY99 09-03-2010 01:22 PM

That's an impressive power figure! Must put a smile on your face :)
Are you able to post up the dyno graph?

PRODIGY 09-03-2010 01:53 PM

Good results mate, i recently got my MY07 Verso'd and am loving the difference.

Hi Mike

Excellent results...im sure it feels even more awesome to drive now!!

And thanks for the feedback...I've been waiting around for someone to get a TurboXS TBE and tune in Perth...so this post is great!!!

Is yours a hatchback or sedan and did you get the exhaust and resonator from the Eastern States? Can you also pm me the price you paid for both the exhaust and tune?

Thanks heaps

jEstEr? 09-03-2010 03:32 PM

does anyone know what a stock 09 does on the asg dyno?

RUSSGT 09-03-2010 03:48 PM

MY99 i find your result of 241hp and 430nm very strange. How did you get that much tourque?

American Dave 09-03-2010 03:58 PM

Russ see MY99 dyno results here post 1091 http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10658&page=28

mike 09 09-03-2010 05:33 PM

Thanks for the feedback.. I have only driven it a couple of times since last night, but so far I'm very impressed. The power difference and pull on boost is very obvious and well worth it. Top end is greatly enhanced and it feels better from 1st onwards....

I have a hatchback in dark grey btw. I will post up a vid on you tube too.

The exhaust gets the thumbs up by everyone so far. Might be a bit too quiet on idle for some. For those who want a little more noise can the resonator..

The exhaust, fitting and tuning all up cost $2650. I got the exhaust direct from TXS.

Can someone explain how the torque figure relates? It's a calc, but where is it being measured at, I thought stock flywheel Nm was 343?

American Dave 09-03-2010 05:40 PM

your dyno figures are at the wheel measurements

A quick question for u American Dave -

So if our car stock at the flywheel is 195kw and 343Nm...what figures would Mike's car be at the flywheel now after his mods (both in kw and Nm)??!

Thanks.

ps that's a great price u paid Mike! Congrats and enjoy it mate..I know I will when I come around to doing mine :)

American Dave 09-03-2010 06:20 PM

at a guess add 25% to get the at the fly numbers

I really recommend it, and the sways,ALK and S/shifter. All good value imo.

you'll note he has an MY06 with a 2.5L...

Kato 10-03-2010 09:51 AM

There is no replacement for displacement!

What does an MY09 have Matt? I have no idea....

American Dave 10-03-2010 10:40 AM

VF52 snail is bigger than the previous VF48 used in the MY08 WRX

BALISTC 10-03-2010 10:43 AM

Nice power figure!!

American Dave 10-03-2010 10:46 AM

agreed but needs more torque :D

Luigi 10-03-2010 10:53 AM

Very nice looking Power and Torque curves.

261HP from a WRX with small amount of mods is awesome.

I would have thought the 2.5L would show a tad more torque.

Overall very nice Power for the Mods.

Mike - Just interested in how many kms your car has done? I'm waiting for mine to hit the 10K mark before i start modding.

btw what does ALK stand for?

In regards to not having enough torque power....according to America Dave, your car now has 25% increase (approx. 425 Nm at the flywheel)...isn't this pretty good?? or should it be alot better?

BALISTC 10-03-2010 11:17 AM

ALK - Anti Lift Kit

LOL that's my standard post to everyone...needs more torque and who wouldn't want more.

I dont get hung up on at the fly figures because with AWD they are very deceiving. The figure you get at all four wheels on a dyno is where its at.

Spider mine has done 32000km! I got it in December 09 (April 09 delivery) with 29000km on it for $32k (+ freight + s/duty) from Brisbane. It was owned by a mining guy who used it as a company car. Mostly highway kms.

Whilst I am really happy with the power, could anyone guess why the torque could be a little low?

Cheers for the feedback and interest everyone.

American Dave 10-03-2010 02:47 PM

Mike with with that many km's can you confirm that your car is a MY09 and not a MY08?

Also its possible your intercooler could be holding you back a bit but not sure on this as I haven't seen much actual info on the MY09 stock intercooler.

Sean would have given you a very safe tune I suspect as he does with all new customers (unless the specifically ask to up the boost fully sick style).

mike 09 10-03-2010 03:19 PM

No chance! :D It is a Feb 09 build, April 09 compliance. I researched the hell out of it before I purchased it. Wouldn't have even accepted an 08 build MY09 due to internal engine problems documented on Nasioc.

It has the darker rims, and front WRX badge.

I even got Subaru to inform me in writing that no warranty claim had been made, and got an inspection at a Subaru dealer in the area before sending it over.

The guy was driving up and down the Sunshine Coast constantly until he was forced to do on site visits and was given a Hilux.

American Dave 10-03-2010 03:29 PM

sweet that rules a line thru that

you have a VF52 and it is capable I believe of more I believe but again I dont think Sean would ring the neck out of any 2.5 ltr boxers these days. Did you get a printout of your boost as well?

I ran a datascan device and logged a couple of weeks worth of daily driving on a MY09 WRX but unfortunately the data is inconclusive I think. Needed more controlled testing and logging. Would be happy to hook up my logger to your car's OB port and do some tests some time as I am pretty interested in the VF52 and what possible with it when tuned right. A larger well made & more efficient tmic might also net you some noticeable gains.

mike 09 10-03-2010 03:35 PM

Cheers Dave... The data logger idea is a good one. I have only received the dyno chart at this stage. I'm actually very happy with the outcome either way.

I might look into a better TMIC in the future, but the car is driven daily by my partner so it is probably a waste of $$ at this stage.

can anyone see what the torque figures are on this MY09 rex...i got this from rexnet.

Ok my experience from seeing cars tuned by Pulse is that the dyno figures are inflated. I have seen some MY07 + Libs with just a TBE and their tune that show 200 kw plus atw....Pulse do the dyno runs for 6MT vehicles in 4th gear, plus dyno figures can be fiddled with to achieve higher numbers and as a result happier customers. I'm not saying the Pulse tune is not good but to me just a bit inconclusive on the data they provide, note no mention of torque sheet they provide and its based on kmh rather than rpm..different again from what you get a ASG. Would also love to know what "shoot out" mode they used for dyno runs.

I would have thought the numbers were a little inflated too but he did get it dyno'd stock on the same dyno and achieved about 147kw..which is pretty accurate!

Anyway, I would definitely be happy with around 190kw on mine!!!

What concerns me is the torque....does anyone know what torque figures other MY09's are getting or should be getting?

RUSSGT 10-03-2010 06:01 PM

Pulse = Definite LARGE numbers.

American Dave 10-03-2010 06:02 PM

3rd gear power runs in a 5MT or 4th gear power runs in a 6MT can do that :D

RUSSGT 10-03-2010 06:08 PM

Its incredible high altitude wise over there at pulse...

American Dave 10-03-2010 06:11 PM

ROFL they are high at Pulse alright
