Default Carrera Autos worth a try?

Looking in todays paper Carrera Autos have a MY06 Sti for $32k, done 66K and has log books for the services.

Doing a web search, comes up with them being a pannel beater, which probably explains the price.

Guessing its hail damaged repair, which depending on the job may make for a fair buy, or its an accident repair and should be steared clear of.

Anyone had any dealings with these guys?

Its a 4 hr return trip to see the car so finding out about the dealers reputation may help with making the trip or not.

Theres about an $8k saving, and there was alot of cars written off due to that hail storm up there.

Cheers

Tim

Nice

Thanks, I have seen that and probably should have included the link, but the question is more about the ethics of the dealer. Google has 1 review which is poor, but that is only one of many cars they would have sold.

Went and looked at a car up there years ago. They do get in a lot of low km cars that are repairable write-offs and fix them up. They were pretty honest about it tho.

I would just ring them up and ask if it has been bought in as a repair, to fix then sell.

Might of also had water damage so if your serious just ask all
the right questions and request a compression test.

Axle, thats the type of information I'm after. Your experiences with these guys.

JDM good thought, I was going to have either an RAC check or a check done by the mobile mechanic listed else where on the forum on pretty much any car I was going to buy. Approx $200 for an inspection is good insurance.

Its in Malaga. So are MMS and ASG. Could be worth seeing if you can arrange to have it inspected by one of the 2 before commiting to purchase.

not sure if they still do this, but a few years back I had a look at a car they were selling. Went round the back and they were fixing wrecked cars using new shells from holden: commodores obviously. They all had very low kms and looked great.

A friend bought a vs clubsport from there. Looked great and went ok, but started to rattle and paint fade in some areas.

Personally, I prefer a car that has not been rebuilt from a wreck because you are just not sure what has been replaced and what may be 'good enough' to leave.

If you ask them about hail damage and water damage, they must be upfront about it.

Not bagging them out, like I said, just a few observations/experiences.

the old days when the department of transport would allow cars to be re-shelled are long gone.

Carrera's do as good a job as most panel repairer's, they used to specialise in reshelling holdens, mostly commodores as you could buy a brand spanking new shell from holden with all panels already painted in any of the factory colours
