It's physics.

Tube & Fin cores have better external aerodynamics than a bar and plate core, the external air flows around the tubes better. The internal air cools better, which means its denser.. which means less lag.

T&F

B&P

That being said, bar and plate suffers from heat soak less, due to its heavier construction, and internal surface area is larger which generally means less pressure drop through the core..

Its splitting hairs in a street or mild (>400WHP) application, but just FYI, the 08 STi TMIC has a massive surface (9,600 fins just on the surface layers on the front and back, not including the internal fin area), is cheap, and is worth giving a shot to see if it works better..

Either core needs a very good water spray setup to maximise the efficiency of it.

I'll be trying this shortly and I'm hoping for some decent results

Me either and the fact that the cold side of the intercooler was freezing after 3 runs yesterday i would say that it is working just fine (so i can cross intercooler off t6he list!)

here is a copy of one of the dyno sheets

Beau...

What are u needing to do for regulations in your class. you might want to specifiy this before gaining any advice..

im assuming very little.

So your best option would be twin scroll conversion...

Still haven't seen proof that the PW TMIC is better than the STi TMIC too. Which was promised when they were first made.

Tbh, it makes sweet f.all difference in the applications most people are talking about. I'd be willing to bet both will act the same, which is why there is no 'proof' that one is better than the other.

The dyno plot looks laggy as hell. Have a talk to ASG why they are only running 16psi and if any gains can be made in the AVCS timing.

Otherwise try a standard STi turbo (IHI), look for a smaller housing for your turbo, replace cams, headers, manifold etc etc etc

Tino,

Yeah mate you are right, i can't go overly crazy, i can change cams and maybe even go TS (more than likely the answer) but i would imagine the cams would have to be fairly minor, don't know a lot about avcs but it just feels like a slug untill well into the 4k range!

must be some way to build torque or power into the mid 3k range without going overboard

Well then twinscroll is your sole answer, just means ull have to ditch that turbo for a VF37 or something similar or go for an aftermarket HKS variety for some extra punch...

You can play around with cam timing to bring it on earlier but dont know if verso has access to control that?

Putting in larger cams will only shift the powerband to the right and not what u want obviously..

From Sexnet:

Comparison of STi TMIC vs PW TMIC.

Both cars 2.5L running GTPS02 turbos @ 16psi.

Power on your MY08 seems very low... :/ I'd also be checking that you have done a fuel pump, what your injector duty cycles are etc.

Edit: Also reading the MRT stuff on their MY08 packages, they seem to be getting more reasonable results?

I agree, i am starting to wonder if there is something amiss with the tune, compared to what i am seeing with other cars with similar mods i am starting to think that it might not be quite right!
