**New Timing belt**
Hey everyone,
Ok i know this is going to sound dumb but im just trying to learn lol So i have an oil leek and the mechanics that are fixing it today, they keep going on about oil leaking onto the timing belt and are replacing it with a new one. I would just like to know how that will stop an oil leek and what else should be changed (if anything). Thanks in advance Sarah |

It wont stop the oil leak but if the old timing belt was oily it could compromise the belt hence why they recommend changing it. That or they're trying to rip in to you.

Yeah, don't want oil on your timing belt.
Silly me though, for some reason I thought the EJ20/T used a chain. |

It could be a leak from the camshaft seals.

It could be the belt tensioner, I believe it's a hydraulic tensioner. Just had my timing belt replaced last week with the tensioner and a couple of guide pulleys. Man that's an expensive excercise to replace 1 lacky band!
