It's an NA 2 litre, its not going to fail.

The important thing is to not drive it at the same revs. If you are doing a lot of 50 or 60 kmh driving, mix it up by doing it in third, fourth and fifth gears. Plus all the other bits of advice make good sense.

Arn't these things run in during the build process anyway....

Just don't book a track session in the first month or so and it will be fine.

I was surprised when I picked up the MY11 WRX this week and found out that the initial oil change service is no longer required. First service is the normal 12,500km/6 month service. My MY08 definitely had the initial oil change service listed in the service book.

^^^Cheap cunts, as soon as it hits say 1500-2000kms I'd personally changing the oil out for a nice synthetic oil such as Motul etc etc.

and to the OP - section 8-2 of your new car's owner manual tells you what Subaru recommend for the first 1600 km:
- keep it under 4000 RPM
- don't drive at a constant speed (fast or slow)
- avoid hard braking
- don't launch it at the lights (not quite Subaru's words, but you get the idea) :)

When I got my sti a few months back I was told by the dealership that the sti engines (don't know about others) are run in at the factory prior to being dropped into the car, so they're good to go straight away which is why the first service isn't needed until 12,500km and no running in required

Seriously, follow the manual, drive it normally, don't thrash it, vary your speed etc, etc..

Essentially, everything that was advised above.

Use synthetic oil after 12,500km (as recommend by Subaru)
