Question How to drive your new car before the first service

Hello Everyone,

Ok before someone jump at me, I did use the search, but I don’t seems to find anything that is relating to this. If you found it can you please let me know or is everyone here a pro on all things?

Anyways last week I just brought a brand new Impreza R, just wondering if anyone here has any hits on the correct ways to correctly run this car in before the first service.

Some say that you should take it easy on the first 1000 k but other told me that you should really give it a good revving.

Thanks
Vegem8

lol mate, good revving was possibly a joke?

Take it easy first few thousand k's, give the motor a chance to work everything in.

in before start car, no warm up time, and reversing out the driveway on boost.

Limiter / 1 / Limiter / 2 / Limiter / 3 / Limiter / 4...............

On a serious note, drive it like 'normal', (round town, bit of highway, 'loaded up' in elevation changes, etc etc), but pull the next gear at say 4k. (Dont rev the tits off it).

Brent.

Moderate RPM, lots of load for the most part, but give it a bit of a rogering every now and then also.. you need to vary the driving.

Doesnt really matter. Will need a new engine before to long anyway. 257 of fail. lol

Yeah as others have said. Drive normal but no boost when cold. Load it up a little up hills and then use the engine to decelerate the car down hills. It helps to create a larger vacume and pull crud and stuff from behind the rings.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I've come across a few articles before that actually say to give it some juice (with in reason).
This one relates to motorcycles, but the process is basically the same.

BTW I'm not saying do this - I don't know shit about engines, I just found it to be an interesting read as it offers a different opinion with some information to back it up.

For those in the know, feel free to discredit it.

isn't it just an Impreza R (non-turbo)? Drive the car normally, just don't red line it.

Spent the 1st 1000km driving it fairly conservatively, revved up to 4k rpm through the gear.

Also drove the first 4000km without using the cruise control and did a lot of engine breaking when coming to a halt.
