Straight cut gears for the 2002 subaru

Hey people i curently have a 2002 subaru wrx and the gear box wines quite a bit whilst coming of the revs whilst doing the gear box up i was thinking of puting straight cut gears for gears; 1,2,3 being on a aprentice wage im tight for cash and need to know would straight cut gears or a whole recond sti 6 speed box be better? And whats the ruffs prices for both these?
Cheers every one :)

straight cuts will prob cost you more than a 6speed anyways have looked to go down this path and at thee moment the 6speed is cheeper my thinking anyways :)

$7K for either option.

why are they as expensive as a new ej207 inc labor?
i don't understand

Wow realy that much? Is it more labour than the parts im guessing?

Can do a 6 speed swap for $5K these days.

And a 6 speed is stronger even than aftermarket straight cut gears for 5 speed.

I have some 6 speeds for sale. so if you are interested in going down this path... PM Me.

When and in what gears does it whine? It may be as simple as transfer case bearings needing to be replaced.

If the budget for straight cuts or a 6sp conversion is beyond you, then there's the option to look for a higher ratio 5sp box like a 4.11 or 4.44 + matching rear diff.

Including a new clutch & a flywheel?
Including a new clutch & a flywheel?
Including a second hand 6 clutch and flywheel with at least 70% of life left in the clutch.

Ive noticed that of the people who break a 5 speed, many do it not long after putting in a new heavy duty 5 speed clutch. So when they do the 6 speed conversion the 5 speed HD clutch stays in.
