I looked at 3 2002 STi's for Dave master D, all over 20k and none I would call decent. They may look and sound decent on carsales but often the actual car has hidden 'bonus' extras.

$15k isn't too much for a really good GC8 I reckon.

I know Darren's old car, happy to inspect it if you like.

wot bout the one that dave actually picked up not much more than 20k..

The point is Dougie that a 99 wrx will have bulk kays and a 205 engine, weak gbox etc etc..

It's a mistake a lot of people make. Comparing the best GC8 to the cheapest 02 STi. I used to work with a guy in charge of design and manufacturing. His whole philosophy was to brag about being better than the worst of his competitors and cheaper than the dearest competitor!

Sure there are some good cars out there, they usually sell to the first person who sees it, on or before it ever gets advertised. Dave's car was one of those. GrumpyRex's STi is possibly the best 05 I've ever seen, sold within hours of being advertised. They're hard to find and worth the effort.

i still rather a cheap 02 sti over the best GC8 as even the worst has a better engine and gbox the weakest points in a GC8..

Most of th 02-05 STI's that I looked at (including the one that I bought) required or were close to requiring brake pad & rotor replacement, &/or clutch replacement. Add the price of these things, plus any other issues, to the extra $5000+ for an 02 STI and it may blow his budget out. Many people on this forum have shown that a gc with 205 & 5speed can be a vehicle that will last 200000km+ if tuned & maintained right, and most importantly driven correctly by knowing the limitations of the vehicle.

I was actually interested in this at one stage, went out to the hills and took it for a drive. Though i don't have much experience driving GC8's (only drove one other like 2 times) this drove fairly smoothly.

Back left bumper needed a bolt on but that seems about it, wheels a bit scraped but not too bad.

Only thing was the car stank like MAN haha, that thick armpit smell.

The seller is a good bloke, don't think he'd mind if you took it for a lap.
