Betty White - Fastest In SA

You think I might have been a little disappointed swapping over my Time Attack winning EVO X GSR for a MY09 Betty STi. Not a part of it. While it might be a little different in WA, there is an underlying sentiment amongst the EVO ladies in SA that the Subie is no good, slow, and generally blows up. Just didnt seem to make sense to me......so away we went.

Several hours was spent on the dyno tuning for E85 which we have on pump here, so with 850cc injectors and a surge tank/Walbro 255l/hr pump I mapped the engine up with Opensource software (we write/tune using this method on Subaru/Mitsu)

Bottom line from the tuning session is that the EJ257 engine on E85 makes more power and torque (substantially) than the EVO X 4B11 on E85, and all using less boost pressure. In other words the Subaru engine simply does it much easier.

Figures for power tuning came in at 237awkw using 17psi boost pressure. Thats TBE, fuel system, tune. These arent Disney Dyno figures either but real numbers.

p.s. I hope you are wrong because I have an Evo X RS for tarmac duties on order.

Martin Donnon 27-03-2011 10:25 AM

Dont worry the EVO X RS is inherently a faster car in the chassis department, but they dont go close on Power/Torque

HSD Coilover suspension System

Willall Racing Springs

Martin Donnon 28-03-2011 04:38 PM

Andy
I like to set the car up to handle the way I want it to handle, so I dont use the off the shelf HSD spring rates in the car. Instead we go out for a test day and get some data, make some changes, and see where it puts us - in the case of Betty its a fair bit stiffer than the stock offerings

American Dave 28-03-2011 04:48 PM

I am curious how many many track days or kms do think you have put on the HSD coilovers Martin ?

why did you choose HSD's ?

Martin Donnon 28-03-2011 05:03 PM

The HSDs in the STi have done plenty of work, many track days and around 15,000km on the road. Ben from Otomoto has been a mate/workmate of mine over many years from the early magazine days and 'back in the day' gave me a set to try in one of our R32 GTRs. They have always worked the way - I want them to work, so I stick with them.

They are no $15,000 a corner Sachs race unit, but they are good value and seem to work very well on the track

Jimmy S 28-03-2011 05:09 PM

Why not go for custom HSD spring rate's? They put different springs onto my HR's in the Liberty.

p.s - Andy 5 - I told you so... Why do you doubt me?

I'll have to drive and check before your Lib goes Jimmy.

Was it the same spring rating as Dave's old lib?

BALISTC 28-03-2011 06:08 PM

Love the HSD's.. I sell these for a reason, because they're a high quality unit and are excellent value for money.

apg39 28-03-2011 06:29 PM

There seems to be something wrong with you're price list....it's not MASSIVELY overpriced compared to similar offerings from one over east that sounds like Em Are Tea.

Seems like pretty good value for money for someone who just wants the car to perform & doesn't have the time to research all the best setups etc.

teejay 28-03-2011 06:32 PM

The only thing I want clarification on is - surely the E85 and 98 setups produce different power/torque numbers?

g4c14 28-03-2011 07:05 PM

Thats an amazing car(s)! Decent torque.

American Dave 28-03-2011 08:46 PM

if we could only buy E85 at the pump ?

Rex97 28-03-2011 08:49 PM

For anyone that wants abit more info on the evo i've got some 'Performance Imports' magazines with the tech articles on it.

urabus 29-03-2011 11:11 AM

Martin I understand you have my mates GTR coming in for some work late this week early next week. Hes the tall Dutch guy.

Just for shits and giggles ring him next week and tell him that it through a leg out of bed on the dyno. Would make an awesome 'gotcha' call.

Then politely let him know that is all good.

Martin, not dak dak related... but do you have any sound clips of your Ti exhaust for the EvoX?

JDM_STYLE 29-03-2011 04:33 PM

Man your cars make a shitload of power in neutral. :D

In all seriousness though awesome work with the betty!

Martin Donnon 29-03-2011 04:37 PM

I love the Betty because its the underdog
I am racing it this weekend at the Mount Alma mile, probably the most fearsome Hillclimb in Australia - it is VERY fast. I have some Pirelli soft slicks for her, lets pray for some sun and god willing we will slay the infidel EVO menace......again!

More info here - www.mountalmamile.com
You can see the fearsome scowl faced Betty in the entry list!
Can anyone overnight me a perth-wrx sticker to run on the car?

JDM_STYLE 29-03-2011 04:44 PM

PM Kymbo aka "Impresiv" as he's the sticker man.

Have you been following the Nissan GTR drive day over at Phillip Island? A certain modded GTR belonging to a Perth workshop through a rod today.

Putting him in yours will just translate to him procrastinating over doing similar mods to his and then the ear bashing I will get when he gets home.
