All depends on how much you want to spend and what features you want.

I use a haltech e8. Try looking up link, autronic, power fc(apexi), viper, motec.

Why?
Do you need logging? wideband lambda? telemetry? antilag? rotational idle?
You need to ask yourself why you want to upgrade your ECU, and what you're trying to achieve.
If it's just a matter of wanting to modify your car, and needing a retune to suit the modifications, then an ecu remap such as Verso or ecutek will be fine.
Prices vary from $1000 through to $5000+
ECU upgrade just for the sake of ecu upgrade is crazy talk.

we have a special on in the Vendor's section for Autronic PNP SM4 for $2349 from $2995, pretty awesome deal and its definately one of the best ECU's for the wrx/sti. Otherwise we sell Link G4 for $1980.

cheers
Dan

more information on your needs, mattmy99 has made this clear for you. You say you want to upgrade the ecu, but you don't know what your meant to be looking at

Quite surprised that no one has told you to just do a search, this question has been asked so many times already

If you can't find the information or still unsure, then tell us why you want to upgrade the ecu for and people here will tell you and point you to the right direction.

Don't listen to these guys with their silly crap that doesn't actually extract any power.

You need either:

or if you have some more development time...
