Default To Bugeye or not to Bugeye...

Hey guys,

Looking at getting another WRX.

Problem is in the past I have always liked the 99/00 shape, and wouldnt even look into getting a 01/02.

However, looking around now all the 99/00's have close to 100,000km's on them, and for a couple of thousand more I could get an 02 model with 30,000km's... so I can't decide, and the bugeye look is growing on me.

I assume the 02 model would be a better car being newer and everything... anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

You are right about being a better car (apart from the fatness thing), the chassis in the bugeyte is much better than from the classic shape...plus they look better...

Go the bug man. I wasn't a huge fan to start but I wouldn't get a classic now. I like the extra refinement you get, cruise control cd stacker, climate control.

Plus a little more room. Only draw back is you don't get the extra power with exhaust bolt ons etc. That said I've added a GFB Reactor manual boost control to mine and thats great fun. ECU upgrade comming up down the track!!

I agree hehe!

Bugeye vs older shape, in my opinion.

Bugeye handles better, newer, and more comfortable/nicer interior
Older model will perform better to mods without ECU, and the fact that its lighter.

My 01 vs mates 00, with same mods, i.e. FMIC, exhaust, intake, but he has about 2 psi more boost, well his kills mine. Through 2nd and 3rd I'd say 3-4 car lengths.

Looks is subjective. Both can look shit, both can look hot...

I've had a MY00 and now own a MY05, given this is not a bugeye, but it is still the same basic shape. In comparing both, the MY05 is quantum leaps ahead in build quality, chasis rigidity and it handles better I reckon. In terms of of which is quicker, well, stock I think there wasn't much in it. The MY00 was raw in all of its qualities and a great car. Looks are a personal thing, I don't reckon you really get a Rex cause they look good - you get one cause they go and handle like stink. All in all I reckon the MY05 is a much better all round car. Go the bugeye mate...
