boost

hey there
anyone here had there car tuned, to lets say 1.3 bar, and then a few months later when your driving look at your boost gauge and see that its changed and running 0.9 to 1 bar boost. i noticed it today when i was driving...?
any ideas there to what that would be? its like its lost its tune.

Rossco 25-09-2011 04:12 PM

In a nut shell:
possible Boost leak- leaking somewhere between turbo & throttle body or vacuum pipe popped off.
Someone played with your boost controller?
Turbo dying.
Blocked Cat. or header leak.
potato in tailpipe.

I would check all of the boost control vac lines first, .9-1.0 indicates it's only making roughly wastegate pressure. look for a split line somewhere.

2004 rs 25-09-2011 05:05 PM

Don't have a boost controller, I shall check the above and not turbo that's new

johnvk7 25-09-2011 06:34 PM

Wastegate pressure on a factory turbo (factory wastegate) is about .5 bar or 7psi.
Does the car drive any differently, may be an issue with the hose to the boost gauge if not.
If it feels slower, Rossco's probably right, boost leak.
Does the car have an aftermarket ECU? Or Ecutek?

2004 rs 25-09-2011 06:52 PM

Brand new vf34, Doesnt really feel slower no, I'd say it's something to do with the gauge

2004 rs 25-09-2011 06:55 PM

Brand new vf34, Doesnt really feel slower no, I'd say it's something to do with the gauge . Have autronics sm4

johnvk7 25-09-2011 07:33 PM

If the turbo has just been replaced, there may be a loose hose clamp between the turbo and the throttle body.

2004 rs 25-09-2011 07:57 PM

ah ok, it been on for nearly 3000km now, ill check it tho

RoughStilin 25-09-2011 11:21 PM

Kaiden, check your boost pressure with a known "good" gauge. Yours might not be reading 100% correct. The gauge you have could have a loose fitting on it, or the line to the gauge could be partially blocked.

Does the car feel like it is any slower now? .4 of a bar is a decent mount of boost to lose, you should feel the difference in the way the car drives.

fsk 26-09-2011 01:50 AM

so whats wrong with the 3000k old vf34 you have up for sale? o_O id most certainly bet the turbo swap is involved!

Jordiee 26-09-2011 02:04 AM

^^^
no signs point to the problem
being the turbo itself, probably consider that before giving more food to time wasters

Laudable defense of your mate, but the question is valid.

Perhaps allow the OP answer the query himself before jumping in and BEING said 'time waster' yourself?

Jordiee 26-09-2011 05:35 AM

mate how long does it take you to read one post? not a real waste of time tbh

yeah I'm defending my friend, but I'm also statin facts, what I said is true and if he'd bothered to read the posts above him he wouldnt have made such a nothing post

jus sayin'
so whats wrong with the 3000k old vf34 you have up for sale? o_O id most certainly bet the turbo swap is involved!
I'm also a little curious about this

Read above posts, my question is still unanswered.

To thicken the plot let me add that upon further research to see if my question as suggested by Jordiee (not that i can tell?!?) had been answered i read though the forsale thread for the turbo and noticed
this post claiming the turbo will be removed tomorrow being the 19th of this month and comparing it to this post it would seem the OP has apparently done 3000km in one week.

While this is certainly possible i have my doubts that it is the true story o_O

have you considered the possibility that things didn't run to schedule (as they rarely ever do with life) and he was delayed, through no fault of his own from getting his new turbo, thus making it impossible to remove at that date?

i don't know what your on about with the 3000km in one week, i think you mean 1000km, and considering that's not the case as he didn't take it off, he's done almost 1000km (bring it up to almost 3000km) since the 4th (2000km)

also i know he says "turbo out" in this post however this was the day before it was due to be taken out and it wasn't for reasons beyond his control

afaik it's coming off tomorrow (touch wood)

i also misread your post with my initial response, i thought you were implying something was wrong with the turbo rather than querying the k's done on it, my apologies

Back on topic..

+1 for a vacuum pipe. ( Does the boost gauge jump around a bit? as in the needle doesnt move smooth at all? ) check all vacuum pipes.

Or: autronics sm4 - could be running factory boost settings - sounds a lot like factory 14 - 15psi boost setting..

Rossco 26-09-2011 10:18 AM

Group hug...........
p.s I'm sober now :)

Rexxar 26-09-2011 11:15 AM

Might be a silly question - but 1.3bar is set to come at 4th-5th gear and not 1st to 3rd gear?

mattmy99 26-09-2011 11:21 AM
Might be a silly question - but 1.3bar is set to come at 4th-5th gear and not 1st to 3rd gear?
What's the question?

Kato 26-09-2011 11:30 AM

Why would you want low boost for 1-3 and high boost for 4-5? Doubt any tuner would tune like that...

Jordiee 26-09-2011 11:51 AM

hahahah same

Rexxar 26-09-2011 11:55 AM

just a silly question hi/lo boost settings, maybe it is set like that.... but like you said highly doubt it

fsk 26-09-2011 12:21 PM

lol what are you his lawyer or something?

Jordiee 26-09-2011 12:24 PM

no im just better at the internet than him

2004 rs 26-09-2011 06:00 PM

The boost doesn't jump around it's solid at 0.9 1 bar.. Car is going to mao tomoro so he will sort it out, I'll post up what it is.

2004 rs 26-09-2011 06:01 PM

And I don't sit on a computer at work during the day so that's y I take ages to reply.

No need to apologise this is exactly what i am implying seeing as the OP has replaced his "perfect condition, pretty much is brand new" vf34 with another vf34 and is now trying to flog the old one off.

Jordiee 26-09-2011 09:09 PM
No need to apologise this is exactly what i am implying seeing as the OP has replaced his "perfect condition, pretty much is brand new" vf34 with another vf34 and is now trying to flog the old one off.
mate, what the fuck are you on about?

give it a rest, and while your at it actually read my posts

teejay 26-09-2011 09:15 PM

He has a VF34 for sale, which he claims is perfect condition, yet he just fitted another Vf34

Why would you do that?

Thats what fsk is asking.

Jordiee 26-09-2011 09:21 PM

he's only ever had one^

the "brand new vf34" mentioned earlier in this thread is the same one he has for sale, the same one he was delayed taking off, and the same one that is coming off tomorrow

i'd guess he's just saying "brand new vf34" to emphasise that it is new enough to rule out it being a problem with his boost issues

such communication fail in this thread

teejay 26-09-2011 09:30 PM

If people took 2 seconds to type coherrent sentences the world would be a happier place.

ALPHA 26-09-2011 09:51 PM

^ What he said. This thread needs a tidy up.

Jordiee 26-09-2011 09:53 PM

or maybe if fsk and everyone else didnt assume he bought a "brand new" turbo, where i knew he didn't

i blame the OP for his initial wording

2004 rs 26-09-2011 10:33 PM

im changing the turbo for a bigger one. the blouch billet 20g turbo. when mao takes the turbo out he can comment on the condition of the vf34, i have the reciept from the previous owner of my car for the new vf34 he put in my car in may this year. i then purchased the car and am seeking more power, thats why its comming out tomorrow to make way for the blouch billet turbo.

teejay 26-09-2011 10:59 PM

So who cares if it isnt boosting right - get it sorted when you drop it off
