Monaro to cease production..
Looks like the Monaro will cease production in September. The last ones will be sold around then. Check out this link
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=42268 Having owned a Monaro, I have a soft spot for this awesome looking Grand Tourer. I know this a Rex forum, and I am a Rex owner, but I'm also a car enthusiast and respect all types of sports/performance cars. Whether you're a fan or not, you have to admit the Monaro is one of the best looking cars Oz has produced. Cheers to Mike Simcoe and Holden for a fine Aussie machine... DRex |

I think that teh chenge of commodore platforms and also the failed zeta platform which was meant to be the basis for many global rear drive gm products caused this.
also, the exports to the us were apparently higher in volume then the numbers staying here. No more export, no more profit. There has been word that holden will source the next generation of monaro from teh us as it will be more than likely made there, unless they can find a cost effective way of making them locally again. The next new holden model VE will introduce a hatchback like the ssx concept shown a few years ago. A turbo version of the alloytech will also come into play, coupled with awd, this should be quite a stir in teh local market. You heard it here first.
