Default engine spluttering

Hi All
Just got a 99 WRX but having a few problems under boost. It has a unichip sti turbo, exhaust etc but breaks down under heavy exceleration..?? With the boost controller unplugged it is fine. It is running 18psi. I got the mass airflow sensor checked and it was fine. Not sure what do do next? Any suggestions? Thanks

Biggest issue is probably the unichip or you are hitting boost cut.

Best to take it to a workshop to diagnose.

Check the hose connections from the boost solenoid to the pressure side and turbo actuator. Also make sure the hose with the built-in factory restrictor is still there.

Ok thanks for that. The other weird thing also when driving normal under some exceleration you can feel the car surging slowly up and down at tad.
It does feel like it could be something simple so I will check on those hoses as you mentioned. Cheers

certainly sounds like AFM, did you replace it with a new one?
Boost cut is pretty aggressive, like hitting a brick wall, is that a good description of what your experiencing?
It may also be a knock sensor problem, if its happening under gentle accel.
Get codes checked bare minimum, and take it easy till you have an answer,
faulty AFM will be leaning out the engine significantly, damage may result.

Fuel. I had this the other day, engine spluttered and eventually died. Turned out I was low on fuel. I'd say this is your problem.

replace air flow meter with a brand new one before checking anything else, even after celaning or visual inspection, one that may seem 'ok' can be totally rooted
