I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the FT-86 will sell for around 30k, so there should be no reason for the BRZ to cost any more? either way I'll definitely be replacing the GC8 with one of these.
Unfortunatly that's probably a US price.

We get buttfucked without lubricant on car prices here. You can pretty much double it and not be o far off the mark.

It's all about making the 'local' car manufacturers competitive.

Yeah the US price is pretty much irrelevant to what we'll ultimate end up paying. My guess is $40k for the n/a and $60k for the 'STI' version.

My guess would be high 30's for base and high 40's+ for performance equivalent.

It seems Toyota Australia want it priced in the low 30k bracket, I'm assuming to compete with the Hyundai Genesis. I believe the genesis will hit our shores sometime in 2013.

Theres a good thread on ft86club.com with some recently 'leaked' information that seems to be more accurate then whatever else has been floating about recently. Can't see there being much difference with the BRZ other then a few cosmetic changes and options so the numbers should be pretty close. Weight is closer to 1220+ kg. 1190 kg with no AC, no speakers, 16 steelies, etc. Of course all the information going around should be taken with a grain of salt. They should be releasing solid information on the final production models in a few weeks time at the Toyko Motorshow.

Key points recently leaked and shamelessly stolen from ft86club website...

460mm from ground to the center of the crank/gravity (low CG)
53:47 F/R weight split
0.27 Cd (coefficient of drag)
D-4S DI engine tech (direct injection pairs with secondary EFI)
1,998cc Displacement
200 HP
151.2 ft-lbs torque
7400rpm redline
12.5:1 Compression ratio
86mm x 86mm bore/stroke
Mcpherson front suspension / Double wishbone rear
Rear seats fold (as one unit)
Cup holders can slide / be removed
Can carry 4 tires in rear
I don't think Subaru has even confirmed they are going to be selling them in Australia yet, let alone some 'STI' variant. You'd think in a few model years they might release an 'STI' spec but doubtful at launch. You'd also think they wouldn't push it into WRX performance / price as they would just be make a competitor for themselves.

Depending who your source is the price varies from mid 30s to high 40s for the Toyota version. Some people have emailed Toyota marketing in Australia but numbers seem to be complete balonoy. High spec? low spec? povo spec? No idea.

If you watch any of the interviews with the lead designers they have said a few interesting things 1) no turbo version planned, 2) same engine mounts so can put a EJ2* in pretty easily, 3) focused on low CoG / handling FEEL.

If I remember the original brief was 25 years of technology into basically a new AE86. good handling, flat out driving

Not sure how legit this is (or if it's popped up anywhere else), but still... they didn't screw up the front end. I'm happy!
