Hi guys. I've installed cusco front and rear strut braces and am now looking at cusco rear sway bar, followed by the front, with HD links. I've heard that the sizing differs from the GD suggestions, obviously, with larger bar on the front as opposed to the rear. Was thinking 22mm front / 20mm rear? Suggestions, ideas?

Can't help with sizes Kym but the Whiteline ones are adjustable.

Being adjustable would give you options to tune the suspension to suit your driving style.

ImPreSiV 30-07-2012 09:35 AM

Are the cusco ones not?

I'm not sure - I assumed not based on your question.

Whiteline has both adjustable and fixed sways Whiteline MY11 Sway Bars

Judging from the pics it looks like they are not adjustable. Only one setting.
I would go for adjustable sways, as Andrew said you can then change them to suit your driving style.

I found having adjustables on the GC very handy.
When I upgraded the sways they were both set to hard, made it very twitchy.
Changed the rear setting, made the car for more manageable.

Had a quick look on Rally Sport Direct as they have a lot of sway bars listed there and the only models from Cusco aren't adjustable.

Also looks the same on the document you linked Kym.

Last time I spoke to John Fowler, he said slightly larger front was the way to go with the new chassis (3rd gen).
Currently have 22/20 or 22/22 (will need to check this) on the car and when it had the coilovers installed it handled very nicely.

Few of the guys are running 24/22 (Craig comes to mind) so it might be worth while asking to be taken for a spin to see if you like the setup or if you want to go for something else.

One suggestion I'll make is to be careful with HD end links on the rear bar.
The Whiteline ones are actually thinner than the OEM and will result in the lower control arm bending inwards by a fair bit as it get tightened.

GTB Liberty 30-07-2012 10:27 AM

Judging by images I concur that the Cusco ones are not adjustable.

The Whiteline ones can come with up to three different settings on a sway - the Liberty ones only have two settings.

Currently mine are set-up as soft / soft but I can increase the front one to hard to increase over steer.

Cusco is a 23mm front, 20mm rear. They only make the one size so they are matched nicely.

I had a Whiteline adjustable rear and never adjusted it. I'd say those that are have the wrong combination of front and rear bars.

Just buy the Cusco's and have some blue love :)

ImPreSiV 30-07-2012 10:38 AM

My thinking exactly John. JDM bling yo! The fact the cusco ones are not adjustable, would mean there's a reason for that... The design is right from the start. Do you think sways are the next logical step John? Or should I get some under chasis bracing first?

Negative to the chassis bracing if you want a street car. You don't want mega stiff. Having been there and done that, the power braces would be the last thing on the list to do.

I would have done sways before the strut braces. So yes do them next.

I've got the cusco f&r in my evo, and it is perfect for a street car imo. Also the cusco units come with bushes that don't need lubrication or create the knocking noises of the Whiteline ones. Small added bonus.

Re the adjustable's, the Cusco GC/GD ones are adjustable. With the new chassis for the GR/GH/GV a lot of companies are not bothering with adjustable rears. Some are copy and pasting GD styles to the new chassis, but that isn't necessarily the best. As with all suspension changes, it will depend on what you do and how your drive. Always best to speak to someone like John @ WW if you are unsure. I will always recommend the Cusco ones though as I have personally found them to be the best.

Thanks John. I've got a great price from Dan at CarMods on the rear bar with links. I'll get him to price me the front too and I'll order them ASAP. Was thinking the h brace as a minimum next. See what you mean about too much bracing on a street car. Thanks

Kym let us know how much the sway links are, i broke a factory one so might look at upgrading.

I have ZeroSports coilovers and Whiteline F & R sway bars - would I see much gain from any of the below? (on the street, not track)

Whiteline Anti-lift kit
Whiteline Roll Centre kit
Whiteline Heavy Duty polyurethane sway bar mounts
Swaybar Lateral lock kit

Anything not listed that you guys recommend for handling? I need to get a decent alignment done too but was going to wait until I have installed any extra parts first.

American Dave 30-07-2012 01:41 PM

a good wheel alignment is essential :)

b32 31-07-2012 07:13 PM

That much i know :) anyone got any comments on if the other parts are worth it for street?

T R3X 31-07-2012 07:23 PM

roll centre kit - yes, so much less understeer!
antilift kit - not too sure what it improves apart from keeping the car low at all time, without jumping up on launches/fast accelleration.

GTB Liberty 31-07-2012 07:47 PM

Coilovers should have fixed that and bobble-head. Most wouldn't be able to tell difference between the effect of the anti-lift or roll centre.

Any lateral strengthening of the front suspension is effective. As such, flexible strut brace and lower arm bar work in mine with limited effect on NVH.

anyone know where i can get a hks blow valve adapter for a 2012 wrx?

having a play with some audio options at the moment, but to short cut a few things for me, anyone know the location for the stock subwoofer that comes in the my11 wrx? (assuming it's the same location for both std deck and navi)

Thought that it was under the one of the front seats?

sedan or hatch? I have two oem sub installed under front two seats. Sedan's should be at the side of ur boot.

gumby 21-12-2012 02:06 PM

sedan...
also chasing a diagram of the head unit wiring harness if anyone has it?

s20525xxx 21-12-2012 02:21 PM

My bad. They also make under-seat sub for sedan:

yeah, it's long story. I am aware that normally the car didn't come from the factory with one unless you gave them more $$.
As for wanting diagrams, I have an old amp & subs I wanted to test with the stock deck to see how it sounds, whether to waste my time installing them or not.

mitchwnz 26-12-2012 03:06 PM

Trying to track down Norm Butler to fab me a new exhaust, seems like he's on a LOONG holiday. Any recomendations for a nice 3"tbe system for the hatch?

Master D 26-12-2012 03:20 PM

Something Jasma rated dude.

Flows as much a tbe should but not epically noisy

Soksta 26-12-2012 03:34 PM

Would it be worthwhile getting just a downpipe to mate up to the existing exhaust?
Something like the Turbo XS Stealthback?

ULTREX 26-12-2012 03:59 PM

We have the new sti exhausts just arrive Mitch for your model.

Good deals! :)

Cheers
Rob

monkeee 26-12-2012 08:05 PM

The Invidia stuff is popular with the yanks.

Just the CBE though as I'm sure the down pipe will foul the steering knuckle being made for the USDM STI's unless you "caress" it into place haha.

That + any quality downpipe (Butler if you can wait, AVO, etc).

An added bonus is the Invidia looks hot!!!!

Done both front and rear sways and end links on a MY11 (though I've reverted back to OEM rear end links for the time being).

What you chasing Kym?

Yep I have Whiteline swaybars with Kartboy endlinks on both front and rear.
