id say thats exactly why teejay.. just saying that the 2.5 has more useable powerband for daily than the evo did.. the evo had more top end power but it had to be over 4k rpm to be fun, it was sluggish off boost.. downright lame actually

teejay 08-03-2012 04:36 PM

I dont agree, especially if it had exhaust and tune.

Ive driven/belted, Evo wise

6, 6.5, 7 GSR, 7 RS, 7 GTA, 8 ADM, 8 JDM, 8 MR, 9, X

They basically never ever feel lame, the same things that make them annoying day to day is what give them character.

Must have been a NA Lancer with an Evo sticker.

drewgong 08-03-2012 10:47 PM

yuuurrrr evo sticker bro.. been said already dumbass. Next moron..

Simon 08-03-2012 10:59 PM

Depends on what you want to use the car for and what appeals to you the most

I made this choice about 5 years ago and went with the 8MR. Sure the sti had more creatures comforts etc and there is no getting away from that boxer note! But in the end I knew the car wouldnt be used as a daily driver and at the time and there werent many Evo's around at the either. Plus after after test driving both I personally preferred the Evo.

kid 08-03-2012 11:03 PM

Fark yours is an MR? Thought it was a normal one when i was talking to you @ Midvale....nice!

Enough with the idiotic comments from you and from other members to you.

I cbf with it anymore, so any members calling other members names like it is some schoolyard, will get a holiday.

Saint_23 09-03-2012 10:54 AM

teejay 09-03-2012 12:23 PM

A Subaru sounds no better to 99.999999% of non car enthusiasts.

norwest_rumbler 09-03-2012 12:23 PM

i use boost whenever i get the chance

REXXXED 09-03-2012 12:24 PM

RUSSGT 09-03-2012 12:28 PM
Souless
Lol and fuk off you two.
Still wouldn't mind driving one given the chance.

blackwrx 09-03-2012 09:28 PM

If you are interested, I have an evo 8 with heaps of work done to it.
It is an 05 model AUD model not a jap import, it has a legit 38k on the clock.
I have a motec m800, tein coil overs, tomei turbo, dump and exhaust.
Upgraded intercooler piping, spare wheel etc etc.
I have been offered 30k trade in, let me know if you want a look at it.

Zombee 12-03-2012 09:40 PM

I appreciate the offer mate, saw it on carsales (the black one?) probably looking for something a little more stock to be honest.

From what I can gather it looks like the STi is a more friendly for daily duties, which this will be. Occasional trackwork.

Probably end with an 05 STi me thinks.

Cheers
Dom :)

Zombee 18-03-2012 10:29 PM

OK, another small query, is it worth getting an STI with the DCCD? I know what its all about, but if the car is an occasional track car, but primarily a daily drive would an MY03/MY04 (non-DCCD) STI suffice?

ImPreSiV 18-03-2012 10:37 PM

DCCD is only necessary if you plan on tracking it... it will make a bit of a difference, but IMO, it won't hinder the fun you have if you don't have it.. I've done many many skid pans, never in a car with DCCD

squid 19-03-2012 07:49 AM

Whenever i play with dccd on my05 sti break shit lol

Rexxar 19-03-2012 08:14 AM

leave it on Auto 99% of the time unless your're on the track and even then leave it in auto lol
or full in Lock mode when in car parks

Andy! 19-03-2012 08:17 AM

Definitely worth getting an STI with DCCD IMO even for a daily. I think the diffs and torque bias make a huge difference.

As you are someone who has previously owned a 07 STI, I think you will notice and miss this feature.

Ps. you mention you are also looking at the odd track event. For the little bit more it would cost to get the 05 (not to mention they are newer) it is definitely worth it.

Kato 19-03-2012 08:20 AM

What 'track' work are you looking at and what is your driving style like?

No you don't need it, but it does allow for 100x more fun if you drive like an idiot (like me).

Andy! 19-03-2012 08:21 AM
leave it on Auto 99% of the time unless your're on the track and even then leave it in auto lol

Wouldn't you want full open in car parks...unless you like it skipping and clunking on all the tight turns.

2.2ts 25-03-2012 01:34 PM

its not like that,
full auto is a pleasure to drive in any condition. You only get the skips on clunks when you change the diffs to lockers etc and then you wouldn't have it in a car park.

You only get the clunk when you life a wheel.

The joy of the 05 is its a little unique, on the track or carpark its well behaved.

I am bias though I have had my 05 sti for 6 years now and it aint going anywhere soon.

Rexxar 26-03-2012 09:11 AM

full lock for full clunks for the lols and see all the people looking at you

Zombee 26-03-2012 07:28 PM

Been doing a bit of research, does anyone know or have heard of chronic rust problems with the Evo's??

Had a look at an 05 STi on the weekend, but it was lacking a bit in the TLC department.

Cheers
Dom

alberto 26-03-2012 07:45 PM

I wouldn't say chronic rust issues, but any car imported from Jap where there is snow and they drop salt on the roads to clear it up usually leads to some rust on cars on the chassis.

Usually its just surface rust and can be fixed very easily. 8MRs are a rarer breed so I guess people in Jap do try take care of them better, so should be able to find some decent ones without any rust at all.

Also need to be careful with the rust thing, some cars may no pass compliance if you're importing from Jap and they have excessive chassis rust.

ADM 9s don't have that problem at all.

blackwrx 26-03-2012 08:03 PM

Or my ADM evo8

Let me know if you want to have a look at it, I have traded it, but have the option to sell.
I think it is a bargain and will be sad to see it go.

saturation 27-03-2012 02:23 PM

Mainly 7's and 8's have the rust issue as they have been driven on salt roads or been sitting at/on wharfs for a while before being shipped.

ADM 9's you will be fine.
